With Dow 10000 firmly on the radar screens of traders, it’s inevitable that the handicapping is about to get hot and heavy.
For the record, we last closed above the five-digit level on Oct. 3. That day the Dow fell 1.5% to close at 10325.38, capping the Dow’s 817.75-point, or 7.3%, decline on the week. That was the DJIA’s worst week in more than six years. And more declines came the following week, when we sank below 10000 for good. Might we see it again soon?
Brown Brothers Harriman technical analysts write that they don’t expect stocks — specifically the S&P 500 — to hit a wall of resistance any time soon. “Given the strength of the market’s push to new highs, we do not think it is time to sell the rally. The S&P 500 is currently retracing the post-Lehman waterfall decline that poses little resistance before the 1100 level,” they write adding that they’re “tactically bullish” for the next one-to-three months.
Where do you fit on the bulls-to-bears spectrum. And more importantly, when do you think we’ll get through 10,000 points on the Dow. Vote in our poll, below.
When are we going to crack Dow 10000?
Before the end of the week. Cha-ching!
Next month. We’re going to see some slipping first.
Before the end of the year. Slow and steady, that’s the ticket.
Sometime next year. We’re in for some volatility.
