Wall St drops on Trump’s threats of government shutdown, NAFTA end

U.S. stocks opened sharply lower on Wednesday, giving back some gains from a day earlier, after President Donald Trump warned of a government shutdown to build the Mexico border wall and also threatened to scrap a trade agreement with Mexico and Canada.

“If we have to close down our government, we’re building that wall,” Trump said at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday evening.

The comments came as lawmakers face a late-September deadline to raise the U.S. debt ceiling or risk a default, and hours after a lawmaker said there was “zero chance” of the U.S. not raising the ceiling.

Trump also said he might scrap the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada to jumpstart negotiations. The first round of talks on Sunday, with the aim to revamp the NAFTA by early 2018.

Investors have grown increasingly concerned about Trump’s ability to legislate his pro-growth agenda, especially those of tax cuts and infrastructure spending, given the near constant political rumblings in the White House.

“The pullback is from pretty strong words out of the president … comments on NAFTA, which brings up a question of a global trade war, is weighing,” said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at First Standard Financial in New York.

“You can have a tax cut, but if you have a trade war, that is going to impact the economic growth,” Cardillo said.

At 9:42 a.m. ET (1342 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 77.83 points, or 0.36 percent, at 21,822.06 and the S&P 500 was down 8.3 points, or 0.34 percent, at 2,444.21.

The Nasdaq Composite was down 21.88 points, or 0.35 percent, at 6,275.60.

Investors are also jittery ahead of the annual gathering of global central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen’s Friday speech will be scrutinized for clues on the central bank’s stand on monetary policy.

Nine of the 11 major S&P indexes were lower, with consumer discretionary index’s 0.60 percent fall leading the decliners.

Lowe’s 4.7 percent fall weighed the most on the S&P after the company reported a lower-than-expected profit and cut its margins forecast.

Bigger rival Home Depot dropped 1.34 percent, weighing the most on the Dow.

Shares of advertising firm Omnicom dropped nearly 5 percent, while Interpublic Group fell 4.3 percent after WPP cut its sales forecast for the second time in 6 months. WPP’S U.S.-listed shares sank 11.2 percent.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers on the NYSE by 1,793 to 715. On the Nasdaq, 1,646 issues fell and 671 advanced.

When it comes to retirement savings, Americans are falling short: Most families have little or nothing stashed away.

That being said, some are more prepared than others, and the wealthiest Americans have significantly more in savings.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), which looked at the state of American retirement in a 2016 report, the top one percent of families had $1.08 million or more stashed away in 2013. That’s 216 times the median working-age family (50th percentile), which had only $5,000 saved in 2013.

The 90th percentile family had $274,000 saved, which is 55 times the total of the median American family. The 80th percentile family had $116,000, or 23 times the median family.

“Participation in retirement savings plans is highly unequal across income groups,” the EPI reports. “In 2013, nearly nine in 10 families in the top income fifth had retirement account savings, compared with fewer than one in 10 families in the bottom income fifth.”

    Another corrupt Democrat going down:

Prosecutors says that Democrat Leader’s “Bribery Scheme went on for Years”!

For years I’ve been telling anyone who would listen that Democrat Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) was as corrupt as they come. (See here, and here.)

Finally, a full two years after being indicted on federal corruption charges and many years after first being linked to that corruption, Bob Menendez is getting his day in court. If there is any justice left in the American courts, we’ll soon see the Senator from New Jersey behind bars in a federal penitentiary.

On Wednesday the government’s prosecutors filed a document with the court that laid out their case against Menendez and should serve to begin preparing the way for his future conviction.

The prosecutors explained that Dr. Salomon Melgen spent years bribing his good friend with hundreds of thousands of dollars in lavish gifts, sometimes offered freely and other times demanded by Menendez.

The defendants’ bribery scheme began shortly after Menendez’s elevation to the Senate in 2006, when Melgen began a pattern of treating Menendez to weekend and week-long getaways in the Dominican Republic that would continue for the next several years. For the first four years of the corruption scheme, the all-expense paid trips Melgen provided often included free roundtrip flights on Melgen’s private jet for Menendez and his various guests. When the doctor’s private jet was unavailable, Melgen supplied equally luxurious travel for the Senator.

The government further argues that while Menendez never made any effort to pay Melgen back with money, he did pay him back by advocating for him with other government officials and departments.

Although Menendez did not pay Melgen back for the lavish gifts in money, he did pay him back using the currency of his Senate office to take official action to benefit the South Florida doctor. Email exchanges between the defendants, their agents, and officials from Executive Branch agencies will show Menendez’s considerable efforts to pressure the Executive Branch on Melgen’s behalf. And testimony from the agency officials over whom he exerted that pressure will illuminate the relentlessness of those efforts.

The government also has proof that over the years, as they continued to get away with their crimes, the two men grew more aggressive and bold in their corruption.

The Government’s evidence will show that, eventually, Melgen’s bribes to Menendez grew to include more than just private flights and luxury vacations, and Menendez’s official acts moved beyond merely advancing Melgen’s personal interests and placing phone calls to Executive Branch officials. The Government will offer emails, checks, mail receipts, a ledger, FEC records, and testimony from fundraising personnel showing that, in just a five month-period spanning May to October 2012, Melgen gave $771,500 to Menendez’s legal defense fund and assorted campaign Case 2:15-cr-00155-WHW Document 204 Filed 08/30/17 Page 8 of 30 PageID: 4305 9 committees fueling the New Jersey Senator’s reelection bid, and did so in a manner that obscured the relationship between benefactor and beneficiary. In return, as emails, memoranda, and witness testimony will show, Menendez performed his most aggressive and pointed advocacy, including personally meeting with and pressuring a Cabinet Secretary and an Assistant Secretary of State, to advance financial interests that implicated tens of millions of dollars in profit for the Florida doctor.

After reading over the government’s case the situation looks bleak for Menendez. The government has reams of documentation and evidence of his corrupt interactions with Melgen and his associates. To make matters worse for Menendez, part of his defense rests on the notion that he was being persecuted by the Obama administration for opposing Obama’s Cuba policies. While I wouldn’t put it past Obama to be vindictive enough to do such a thing, the evidence speaks for itself, Menendez was involved in some shady activities and the government is right to pursue this case. Prosecutors explained as much to the court in their conclusion: “This case is about serious questions of fact and law related to the corruption of one of the highest elected offices in the United States government. It is not about anonymous tips, Cuba, Iran, party politics, or the political consequences of a conviction. The question of whether the defendants engaged in a corrupt scheme cannot be answered by the defendants’ conspiracy theories.”

It’s time for Menendez’ reign of corruption to end. Here’s hoping that the government makes their case and that justice is finally served.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Wall Street gained on Friday as a tepid U.S. jobs report did little to change bets for another interest rate hike this year, while investors were on track to kick off a typically dour month for stocks on a positive note.

U.S. job growth slowed more than expected in August after two straight months of hefty increases. The Labor Department said on Friday nonfarm payrolls increased by 156,000 last month, while economists had forecast an increase of 180,000.

Trump to donate $1 million in personal funds to Texas relief efforts

President Trump will donate $1 million towards Hurricane Harvey relief in Texas, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.

The president said he will donate his personal money, according to Sanders, although she could not say with certainty that the president meant his own bank account and not the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Mr. Trump, who will visit Texas Saturday for the second time since the deadly storm hit, has yet to pick a charity and is open to suggestions, Sanders said. Sanders said she would “assume” the money comes from the president’s personal funding, as that is how he phrased it.

“I had a chance to speak directly with the president earlier, and I’m happy to tell you that he would like to join in the efforts that a lot of the people that we’ve seen across this country do,” Sanders said. “And he’s pledging a million dollars of personal money to the fund. And he’s actually asked that I check with the folks in this room, since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that are best and most effective in helping and providing aid, and he’d love some suggestions from the folks here, and I’d be happy to take those if any of you have them.”

The tragedy of the devastating flooding from Hurricane Harvey has already cost dozens of lives, with tens of thousands of families flooded out of their homes, and hundreds of billions of dollars needed to help Houston and surrounding communities along the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast recover.

In addition, we have to think more broadly about the ravages of climate change. In the same week as Harvey, torrential rains have caused mudslides in Sierra Leone that have claimed more than 1,000 lives, and the worst monsoon storms in South Asia have resulted in flooding that has killed more than 1,200 people across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Twentieth century infrastructure is not equipped to handle this new climate reality, and our over-reliance on fossil fuels has only exacerbated the effects of a warming climate.

In times of global crisis, the United States has always striven to be a leader. The future of our planet is in peril, but we have the capacity to expand newly innovated technologies on a massive scale. Like Franklin Delano Roosevelt established the Tennessee Valley Authority at the height of the Great Depression to bring new technology to vast swathes of our country, creating millions of new jobs in the process, we need a modern day initiative to transition away from fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy.

Members of Congress like Senators Bernie Sanders and Jeff Merkley, Representatives Raul Grijalva, Tulsi Gabbard, Pramila Jayapal, and many others have introduced strong pieces of legislation to rapidly transition our economy off of fossil fuels to renewable energy.

Former anchor because of the fake documents and fake story he told about W. Now there is a man you can trust.

“Rathergate” is the derisive term applied to a set of four documents allegedly written by the former commanding officer of President George W. Bush in the early 1970s, and broadcast on the CBS program 60 Minutes Wednesday, September 8, 2004. The resultant exposure of these documents as forgeries, coupled with a lack of proper news investigating techniques, led to the ouster of four senior producers at CBS several months later, as well as the departure of long-time anchorman Dan Rather, for whom the scandal was named. Because of this, the event was also infamous for coining the phrase “fake but accurate”, referring to Fake news.

  • JohnDille

Former news anchor Dan Rather has said Donald Trump is “seized with fear” over what special counsel Robert Mueller may find in a probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“Donald Trump is afraid,” Mr Rather told MSNBC. “He’s trying to exude power and strength. He’s afraid of something that Mueller and the prosecutors are going to find out.”

“A political hurricane is out there at sea for him, we’ll call it Hurricane Vladimir if you will, the whole Russian thing,” he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It’s still pretty far out at sea, but each day … this hurricane, this political hurricane … is building in intensity.”

Federal and congressional investigators are currently looking into whether Trump campaign advisers colluded with the Russian government to influence last year’s presidential race.

The multiple investigations have plagued the Trump administration, and new developments continue to emerge.

A report this week said Mr Mueller and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat, have teamed up in an investigation into Paul Manafort, Mr Trump’s former campaign chairman.

Mr Schneiderman’s statewide probe could help Mr Mueller in the larger inquiry into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The DNC In Federal Court Admits It Rigged Its Primary For Hillary

Following accusations the Presidential election was “rigged” Democrats proudly declare they rigged their own election.

It has been a long year for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, with deep scandals swirling around the one time head of the Democratic National Committee(DNC). It speaks to the level of seriousness of her controversies that one other thorny involvement of hers has gone largely unnoticed. Wasserman has been in Federal court in Fort Lauderdale, facing charges regarding her involvement in allegedly certainly fixing the Democratic nomination for President.

(This would be the case where a bumbling idiot called the plaintiffs law firm and used a voice modulator, trying to get illicit information about the case, but failed to disable the caller-ID on the phone. The call originated from Wasserman’s office.)

What is notable is these charges are being brought by a group of Democrat Party operatives. The Hillary Clinton email scandal produced documents that revealed there was an inside scheme at the DNC, orchestrated by Wasserman Schultz, to secure the nomination for Clinton. Backers of her opponent Bernie Sanders are behind this court appearance.

The class action suit, filed by one hundred and fifty Democrat voters and donors, charged Wasserman Schultz with fraud for rigging the primary process. These Bernie Sanders supporters contend they were defrauded by Wasserman fixing the result so Hillary was assured the nomination.

Despite the requirements in the Charter, and in spite of the multiple public declarations of neutrality and impartiality with respect to the Democratic primary process, the DNC was not neutral. To the contrary, the DNC was biased in favor of one candidate — Hillary Clinton — from the beginning and throughout the process. The DNC devoted its considerable resources to supporting Clinton above any of the other Democratic candidates. Through its public claims to being neutral and impartial, the DNC actively concealed its bias from its own donors as well as donors to the campaigns of Clinton’s rivals, including Bernie Sanders.

In light of this charge the lawyers for the DNC took a unique defense: “Yes, we rigged the election — and everyone knew it!”

No, seriously. Rather than arguing against the accusation the DNC is taking the position that they were never expected to produce a fair and equitable primary. Central to the suit was Article V, Section 4 of the DNC Charter that outlines the duties of the chairperson during elections.

Article V, Section 4 of the DNC Charter
Article V, Section 4 of the DNC Charter

The DNC argued that despite the appearance of these very words, in this very order, within the charter of the DNC they did not amount to anything of importance or value. The lawyers describe this article as “a discretionary rule that it didn’t need to adopt to begin with.” Running with this more-of-a-guideline-than-a-rule theory the contention of DNC lawyers was that given this lack of adherence to their own charter the courts had no standing ruling on this case.

Further, they made the argument that the responsibility of any suffering experienced by backers of Bernie Sanders fell upon themselves.

The Court would have to find that people who fervently supported Bernie Sanders and who purportedly didn’t know that this favoritism was going on would have not given to Mr. Sanders, to Senator Sanders, if they had known that there was this purported favoritism.

This is a remarkable argument: The Sanders supporters would essentially have to disprove a negative (“can you give evidence you would NOT have donated had you known?”), in the assumption that they knew all along the DNC would never be expected to honor its own bylaws.

So the DNC is alleging the Sanders backers knew of this subterfuge, but they elected to donate money to the candidate whom they knew had no chance of being nominated, all of this due to what the hell, man?!

More remarkable than that is a barrister playing along with this farcical line of reasoning. Federal Judge William Zloch dismissed the suit brought by the plaintiffs, agreeing that it was perfectly reasonable to expect the DNC would never follow its own rules, set in ink and established as party standard. Said Zloch:

“The Court must now decide whether Plaintiffs have suffered a concrete injury particularized to them, or one certainly impending, that is traceable to the DNC and its former chair’s conduct — the keys to entering federal court. The Court holds that they have not, which means the truth of their claims cannot be tested in this Court.”

Given this legal standard we can now expect that any and all arguments made about an illegitimate election last November to evaporate into the ether, much like most of the Russian collusion charges. After all, the ones leveling that particular accusation more than anyone have just successfully argued that being held to any type of election standard is a ridiculous expectation — especially when they are standards drawn up by themselves.

My name is Bryan Parras — I’m a founding member of Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services (TEJAS) and a Dirty Fuels Organizer for the Sierra Club.

I’m a long time organizer and resident of Houston, Texas and the Gulf Coast. The Gulf Coast region is my home, and as I’m sure you’ve heard my hometown has just been struck by catastrophic flooding.

This is the third “500-year” flood event to impact Houston in the last three years, but this is the worst disaster Texas has ever seen.1

In the next couple of weeks Congress will vote to approve funding to help Houston recover. Tell your member of Congress we need a comprehensive relief package that is equitable and just for all Texas residents.

A comprehensive relief package must include:

Funding to clean up toxic sites,

Ensure the right to return for communities at risk of displacement,

Resources to be distributed to everyone who is impacted — not just upper income neighborhoods and commercial areas, and

A focus on sustainable and locally-led development.

The Gulf Coast region is one of the most heavily industrialized areas in the country. For many years I’ve been monitoring heavy industry like oil refineries, toxic waste disposal tanks, injection wells, and chemical plants. Some estimates place more than 10,000 potentially hazardous sites in the impact zone of Harvey.

Already people are reporting toxic smells, headaches and nausea across Houston — I myself have experienced these symptoms. Pipelines are leaking, and already one gas spill has been reported.2

When Congress meets to discuss a disaster relief bill, we can’t let them forget the toxic toll this heavy industry will have as part of our recovery. They must make sure they authorize funding to address the particular toxic hazards faced by communities in the path of the flooding.

  • daniel1154

So how do you like this Dillweed? The DNC emails were leaked by Sanders supporters upset that the DNC rigged the nomination for Hillary. They weren’t hacked by anyone, and Podesta knew it.

From the left wing Salon magazine:

Shades of the Cold War: How the DNC fabricated a Russian hacker conspiracy to deflect blame for its email scandal

The Sanders people have long charged that the DNC has had its fingers on the scale, as one of them put it the other day, in favor of Hillary Clinton’s nomination. The prints were everywhere — many those of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who has repeatedly been accused of anti-Sanders bias. Schultz, do not forget, co-chaired Clinton’s 2008 campaign against Barack Obama. That would be enough to disqualify her as the DNC’s chair in any society that takes ethics seriously, but it is not enough in our great country. Chairwoman she has been for the past five years.

Last Friday WikiLeaks published nearly 20,000 DNC email messages providing abundant proof that Sanders and his staff were right all along. The worst of these, involving senior DNC officers, proposed Nixon-esque smears having to do with everything from ineptitude within the Sanders campaign to Sanders as a Jew in name only and an atheist by conviction.

Wasserman fell from grace on Monday. Other than this, Democrats from President Obama to Clinton and numerous others atop the party’s power structure have had nothing to say, as in nothing, about this unforgivable breach. They have, rather, been full of praise for Wasserman Schultz. Brad Marshall, the D.N.C.’s chief financial officer, now tries to deny that his Jew-baiting remark referred to Sanders. Good luck, Brad: Bernie is the only Jew in the room.

The caker came on Sunday, when Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, appeared on ABC’s “This Week” and (covering all bases) CNN’s “State of the Union” to assert that the D.N.C.’s mail was hacked “by the Russians for the purpose of helping Donald Trump.” He knows this — knows it in a matter of 24 hours — because “experts” — experts he will never name — have told him so.

Here is Mook on the CNN program. Listen carefully:

What’s disturbing to us is that experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other experts are now saying that Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of helping Donald Trump.

Is that what disturbs you, Robby? Interesting. Unsubstantiated hocus-pocus, not the implications of these events for the integrity of Democratic nominations and the American political process? The latter is the more pressing topic, Robby. You are far too long on anonymous experts for my taste, Robby. And what kind of expert, now that I think of it, is able to report to you as to the intentions of Russian hackers — assuming for a sec that this concocted narrative has substance?

Making lemonade out of a lemon, the Clinton campaign now goes for a twofer. Watch as it advances the Russians-did-it thesis on the basis of nothing, then shoots the messenger, then associates Trump with its own mess — and, finally, gets to ignore the nature of its transgression (which any paying-attention person must consider grave).

Preposterous, readers. Join me, please, in having absolutely none of it. There is no “Russian actor” at the bottom of this swamp, to put my position bluntly. You will never, ever be offered persuasive evidence otherwise.

Reluctantly, I credit the Clinton campaign and the DNC with reading American paranoia well enough such that they may make this junk stick. In a clear sign the entire crowd-control machine is up and running, The New York Times had a long, unprofessional piece about Russian culprits in its Monday editions. It followed Mook’s lead faithfully: not one properly supported fact, not one identified “expert,” and more conditional verbs than you’ve had hot dinners — everything cast as “could,” “might,” “appears,” “would,” “seems,” “may.” Nothing, once again, as to the very serious implications of this affair for the American political process.

  • daniel1154

No, I am saying is that only the lunatic left remains in the Democrat party. Normal working people are repulsed by Democrats. That is why Democrats can’t win elections and are no longer a national party.

  • daniel1154

If you believe in “climate change”, which they used to call Global Warming until the data did not fit the fake narrative, you must believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

  • daniel1154

A LIBERAL COMES CLEAN: WE HATE THE CONSTITUTION

It is helpful when a liberal’s impatience with constitutionalism yields to the impulse to rip the façade away and declare their contempt for the Constitution. Georgetown Law School professor Louis Seidman thus does us the favor of candor with his New York Times op-ed today entitled “Let’s Give Up on the Constitution.” The first paragraph is enough:

“As the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions.”

The article is really not worth bothering with further. There’s active commentary about it going on all over the blogosphere today. (Start with Jonathan Adler and Wesley Smith if you are a glutton.) As I sometimes like to say, “Our Constitution may not be perfect, but it’s better than the government we’ve got.” Those “evil” and “archaic” provisions are why, despite 100 years of largely successful “Progressive” assault against our constitutional principles, the United States is still the freest nation in the world.

Let’s hope the higher education bubble breaks first and hardest at our intellectually corrupt law schools.

it would be wrong to conclude that climate change “caused” this storm.

“Attributing a particular event to anything, whether it’s climate change or anything else, is a badly posed question, really,” MIT climate scientist Kerry Emanuel told The Post’s Chris Mooney, who literally wrote the book on the connection between hurricanes and climate change.

The question Did climate change cause Harvey? isn’t really the right one. The better way to frame thinking about the connection is through the question: Does climate change make storms like Harvey more likely?

In many respects, the answer is yes. Here’s why:

A warmer climate makes storms wetter. Greenhouse gases trap more heat in the atmosphere, and that warmer air can hold more moisture. Warmer oceans give up far more water to evaporation. That causes, in turn, more storms to on average dump more rain. And water vapor in the atmosphere is a greenhouse gas, so significantly higher average levels of water vapor traps even more heat, and thus makes the whole cycle much more dangerous than it historically has been. Human caused global warming can cause a number of natural cycles to add to global warming, and if this happens to some unknown tipping point…. the result would be runaway global warming. And at that point, it’s game over for human civilizations, because the natural cycles would overwhelm the human caused cycles, and there would be absolutely nothing that we humans could do to stop that whole process.

Ignoring the long term impacts of global warming.. for now… warmer climate makes storm surges worse. Global warming raises sea levels through a one-two combination: The higher temperatures melt glaciers, adding more water to the oceans, while the extra heat expands that water. Consequently, waters whipped up by a hurricane — that is, storm surge — reach further inland than they otherwise would.

A warmer climate will make hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, and tornados potentially much more common, all over the world. And there is considerable research that suggests that the average storm is expected to be much more intense due to climate change.

Perhaps the best way to think about the connection is like a general. In the U.S. military, climate change is regarded as a “threat multiplier” — a force that makes existing risks to world peace, like droughts and floods that can trigger wars, worse.

Put another way: Hurricanes will form in the Gulf of Mexico during August with or without any greenhouse gas emissions. But climate change makes those storms more dangerous.

“We can’t say that Hurricane Harvey was caused by climate change,” Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Penn State, wrote in The Guardian. “But it was certainly worsened by it.”

“It’s our moral duty to talk climate *now*:”

No surprise here Dillweed. You hate America and our constitution as a result. You communists/fascists never give up trying to destroy America.

The Democrats are reduced to being the party of transgender bathrooms, black lives matter, destruction of historic statues, and Antifa. Most are almost as crazy as you. That is why they will never win elections again, and will soon be gone totally. No longer a national party now.

  • daniel1154

I’m telling you Democrats rigged the game against crazy Bernie Sanders so they could hand the nomination to that loser Hillary Clinton. The Democrats know how to rig a game. Just ask Crazy Bernie and his supporters who are suing the DNC. Wasserman-Schultz had to resign because she oversaw the rigging of the nomination.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin is closer to becoming the next state to demand a convention to alter the U.S. Constitution.

An Assembly committee voted Wednesday to advance measures from Republican Sen. Chris Kapenga that would make Wisconsin the 32nd of 34 states needed to force a convention.

Supporters want to amend the country’s guiding document to require a balanced federal budget, and to impose Constitutional checks on numerous other so called Liberal rules and regulations that are friendly to ordinary people, but unpopular with wealthy Conservatives.
Critics, including Democrats and a handful of spectators that held signs urging committee members to reject the proposals, say it’s dangerous to open the Constitution up for editing, especially when the editing will be done by those who favor protections for the wealthy, at the expense of pretty much everyone else.

The committee also passed an amendment to let delegates remove those who take action outside of the convention’s scope. This move is seen by many as an attempt to shut down any attempts by Democrats to impose limits on how much the Constitution might be changed by Conservatives, mostly Republicans.

The measures already passed a Senate committee. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has said he needs more information while Speaker Robin Vos is onboard.

    5) Most importantly, conventional wisdom has lost its wisdom. For the last year and a half, the experts have constantly told us that NOW American politics is reverting to normal. The point to faulty historical trends, flawed polls, and irrelevant electoral data – misreading the Zeitgeist and gaping bewildered at the Trump phenomenon. At this point when I hear an expert predict doom for the GOP I automatically presume the opposite will happen, since the last time they got it right, Trump was still hosting a reality show. Just you watch.

  • daniel1154

    4) Democrats have not learned the lessons of 2016. Democratic explanations for why they lost last year are completely out-of-touch, which means they can’t learn from their mistakes. Some Democrats think they lost because struggling white Americans were fooled into thinking Trump would help them, and so they’ll turn against the president when their economic situations don’t improve. That’s a sociology professor’s fantasy of American politics that completely misses the cultural factors for Trump’s win – and Hillary Clinton’s loss.

Alternatively, some Democrats think they lost because of “white resentment” – which isn’t far off, but not in the way they think. Trump voters weren’t mostly resentful of African-Americans and Latinos; they resented the racial politics of liberal whites, who disdained their lifestyles and portrayed their legitimate policy differences on issues like affirmative action and welfare as evidence of racial animus. Once Clinton was done describing half of Trump supporters as “deplorables” for their racial and other views, earning their votes was a near-impossible task.

Other Democrats look at the enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries and see his far-left “democratic socialism” as the ticket to changing the momentum of American politics. That view confuses excitement in a primary with potential in a general election. More Sanders-style Democrat candidates would be a delicious gift to the GOP.

There’s one other piece of evidence Democrats aren’t learning from 2016: Nancy Pelosi still runs their caucus in the House. Americans don’t like her, for good reasons (her extreme liberalism and her deceit on Obamacare) and bad (she’s a woman from San Francisco who was alive during the Roosevelt Administration). But until they find a young, telegenic, vibrant House member to serve as minority leader, Pelosi will be an albatross in race after race, the GOP delighting in connecting her to Democrat House candidates.

  • daniel1154

    3) Structural reasons lock the Democrats out of the House. In fact, winning the House gets harder for Democrats every cycle. Gerrymandering has already created Republican-friendly maps throughout the country (an advantage that will likely grow in the next redistricting cycle given Republican dominance in the states). Further, the voter ID laws in 29 states tend to help Republicans, and in states like Missouri and Texas (both of which have Senate races next year), voter ID requirements have been getting stricter.

The obstacles preventing a Democratic wave election are just too steep. Earlier this month, FiveThirtyEight’s David Wasserman shocked the political world with this nugget of data: “Even if Democrats were to win every single 2018 House and Senate race for seats representing places that Hillary Clinton won or that Trump won by less than 3 percentage points — a pretty good midterm by historical standards — they could still fall short of the House majority and lose five Senate seats.”

America simply has fewer swing districts than it used to, because America has fewer swing voters. Blame social media, blame polarizing figures like Donald Trump, but the makeup of Congress can’t change dramatically in an environment with ossified voting patterns.

And Democrats don’t have much of a “bench,” either. The most successful Congressional candidates are often state legislators and statewide officeholders, but the number of Democratic elected officials in the 50 states shrank dramatically in the Obama years. You can’t defeat somebody with nobody.

  • daniel1154

    2) The Senate map is savage for Democrats. Only one Republican is up for re-election in a state that Hillary Clinton won last year, while 10 Democratic Senators are up for re-election in states that President Trump won last year. Many of those (North Dakota, Indiana, Montana, and West Virginia, to name a few) skew decidedly rightward. Of the Senate seats most likely to flip parties next year, only two (Nevada and Arizona) are currently held by Republicans.

Then there’s Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), who will be replaced by a Republican if convicted in his corruption trial next month and then expelled from the GOP-led Senate.

  • daniel1154

Won’t take long for Democrats to start politicizing the hurricane. Politicizing things is all they have.

Let’s explore those 5 seasons the Democrats will take a blood bath in 2018 one by one:

    1) Trump’s unpopularity won’t matter. Republicans and moderates who like Trump will vote Republican out sympathy with the president’s state of siege, but many of those who don’t like him will vote Republican as well. That’s because Americans tend to like “their guy” (or woman) in Washington whoever’s president and whatever the overall political climate.

The power of incumbency in Congress can’t be overstated – and of course it tends to favor the party already in power. In 2016, 97 percent of House members and 87 percent of Senators running for re-election won. Even in the “wave election” of 2014, the numbers were 95 percent and 82 percent, respectively.

The most effective way, then, for a party to take advantage of a national political mood and pick up seats is to run strong candidates to replace legislators who retire. That doesn’t seem a promising plan for Democrats in next year’s elections.

Right now, 2018 looks to be the first year in the history of Senate elections in which no incumbent retires. On average, seven Senate seats per cycle open up, and there have always been at least two.

Retirements in the House so far don’t look good for Democrats either. As of August 10, only 18 Representatives (out of 435) had announced they were retiring or running for another office, most are from safe seats – except for a Florida seat that might flip to the Democrats and seats in Minnesota and Nevada that might flip to the Republicans. The fact those numbers are so small is good news for the party in power, of course.

Which far left political hack wrote this? You people hate the constitution because you hate this country. The constitution limits the role of Government and you hate that.

SO… YOU ARE TELLING ME…. YET AGAIN…. THAT REPUBLICANS TOTALLY CONTROL TIS NATION… AND THUS ARE PRETTY MUCH TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF THE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WE FACE AS A NATION???? WHERE THE HADES HAVE YOU BEEN???? THAT HAS BEEN TRUE FOR MOST OF THE LAST 45 YEARS OR SO!!!

  • JohnDille

Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly have officially joined the growing list of states calling for an Article V constitutional convention — raising the very real possibility of a radically altered Constitution for generations to come. Given the number of state legislatures Republicans currently control, we’re on edge.

If a convention happened today, we don’t know what the rules would be, who would be represented, or what constitutional rights would be destroyed. The Framers didn’t set any of those guidelines. All we know is that Trump and Paul Ryan would be in charge of making those decisions – and that’s scary enough.

Republicans know they’re close to making this nightmare a reality. That’s why in the last year, they held a mock convention in Williamsburg, Virginia, to preview the agenda they would push.

Here’s just a few of the “amendments” they passed:

Repeal the Commerce Clause: This would render the Civil Rights Act of 1964 unconstitutional and reverse critical Supreme Court decisions against racial discrimination.

Outlaw federal income taxes: This would eliminate Congress’ ability to pay for Social Security, Medicare, and other safety net programs – while giving the Trumps, the Koch brothers, and their allies billions of dollars in tax breaks.

Impose permanent gridlock: One amendment would allow just a quarter of the House to strike down any federal regulation. This would have unconscionable effects on reproductive rights, education, and a host of other issues – while grinding our entire government to a halt.

Trump wasn’t even present at this mock convention, and the right-wing attendees still managed to destroy almost every American value we hold dear. We can only imagine what would happen if a real-life convention took place today.
THIS MEANS THAT REPUBLICANS COUL ALL IGNORE THEIR OATH TO UPHOLD THE US CONSTITUTION… NOT THAT THEY UPHOLD IT VERY WELL, ANYWAY!!! IT MEANS THEY COULD SIMPLY REWRITE THE CONSTITUTION IN WAYS THAT GIVE THE RICH AND WHITE SUPREMACISTS AND OTHER ANTI AMERICAN AHOLES… TOTAL POWER OVER THIS NATION AND ITS PEOPLE… AND THE LONG TERM FUTURES OF THIS NATION AND ITS PEOPLE!!! BRAINLESS PUPPETS LIKE DANIEL LOOK FORWARD TO AN AMERICA RUN TOTALLY BY FACISTS… BUT NO REAL AMERICAN DOES!!!

Republicans have nothing to worry about. Read it and learn Comrade Dillweed:

2018 Will Be A Bloodbath – For Democrats
    David Benkof
    10:42 AM 08/22/2017

As President Trump’s troubles mount, the long-standing expectation that Democrats will gain several House and Senate seats in 2018 has only intensified. At this point, many observers are expecting a bloodbath – and they’re right. But for structural, historical, and intangible reasons, expect the bloodbath to be for Democrats as the GOP further expands its dominance in both houses of Congress.

I see five reasons Democrats on Capitol Hill should stock up on life preservers.

    1) Trump’s unpopularity won’t matter. Republicans and moderates who like Trump will vote Republican out sympathy with the president’s state of siege, but many of those who don’t like him will vote Republican as well. It is one of the reasons the Democrat party won’t exist in 10 years. They depend on illegal votes, and they are going to get tougher to get thanks to Trump and 34 GOP governors. They can’t win working people, and won’t have as many illegal votes to help them out.

You may not live long enough to see it, but the Democrat party is gone.

  • daniel1154

Sorry Comrade Dillweed. If you don’t believe me, listen to Obama on the subject:

Hillary Clinton says her Iraq war vote was a ‘mistake’

Then-Sen. Barack Obama hammered her over the vote during the campaign, citing his opposition to the war while he was serving in Illinois’ state senate. Many experts believe the Iraq war issue was a major reason she ultimately lost in the primaries to Obama.

But since losing that election she wrote in her 2014 book “Hard Choices” that she “got it wrong.”

In her comments Tuesday she made clear that she viewed her past vote as a mistake, with no qualifications.

  • JohnDille

This week, yet another Republican implemented voter ID law — this time in Texas — was shot down as unconstitutionally discriminatory. Similar laws have previously been struck down in court, like one in North Carolina that judges said targeted minority voters with “surgical precision.” Yet laws like these are exactly kind of policy that right-wing vote suppressors on Trump’s so-called “Election Integrity Commission” are hoping will come from their work.

In the wake of the monstrous events in Charlottesville and the rise in activity by white supremacist hate groups like the KKK, we should be sending a unified message as a country that we stand for PROTECTING the right to vote and against discrimination in all its forms. But Trump’s commission includes some of the country’s foremost architects of discriminatory voter suppression laws.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer published a strong piece on Thursday in which he said, “If the president wants to truly show that he rejects the discrimination agenda of the white supremacist movement, he will rescind the Executive Order that created this commission,” and he said that if the president does not end the commission, then Congress should act to do so. He also called for public hearings on the state of voting rights in America.

That’s 100% right. Voter suppression — whether in the form of restrictive ID laws, racial gerrymandering, voter intimidation, or any number of other discriminatory tactics used to keep eligible voters from the polls — is the real problem that must be addressed.

But the people on Trump’s commission include some of the Right’s most experienced experts in disenfranchising minority voters — including Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the Heritage Foundation’s Hans von Spakovsky, and former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. The commission is modeling its witch hunt to find in-person voter fraud on Kobach’s “Crosscheck” program — a program designed to justify massive voter roll purges that has been notorious for purging eligible voters.

Trump’s commission is the real fraud. And now is the perfect time to demand that it be dissolved once and for all.

Sorry Comrade Dillweed. Can’t lie your way out of this one.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — In a major victory for the White House, the Senate early Friday voted 77-23 to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq if Saddam Hussein refuses to give up weapons of mass destruction as required by U.N. resolutions.

Hours earlier, the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133.

The president praised the congressional action, declaring “America speaks with one voice.”

  • daniel1154

No. I mean even when they spend 30 million on a congressional race they can’t win:

What Democrats can learn from spending $30M on a House race — and losing

Democrats enraged and emboldened by the Trump victory in November came out of the gate hard and fast against the incoming regime. They organized gigantic protests and rallies and succeeded in trumping Trump’s inaugural weekend with an awe-inspiring 3 million-person turnout nationwide for the so-called “women’s march.”

And when the president nominated Rep. Tom Price to be his secretary of health and human services, the table was set for an epic effort to show these stunning protests could have stunning real-world results.

Price, a congressman from Georgia, represented a largely affluent suburban district outside Atlanta that Trump had only won by 1.5 percentage points after Mitt Romney had taken it by 24 (and Price by 23.4). The district clearly had problems with Trump personally and that disaffection seemed like potentially fertile ground.

Democrats and liberals were frantic about doing something positive, something meaningful, something powerful after the November wound, and word whipped around the country that there was a winnable fight in a Georgia special election with a primary election on April 18.

No one quite anticipated the desperate enthusiasm that would follow as Ossoff entered the fray. The no-name Democrat who’d challenged Price in 2016 had raised and spent less than $1,000. The Daily Kos, the leftist website that pioneered grassroots internet political fundraising, generated $1 million for Ossoff in a matter of weeks.

Ossoff raised nearly $9 million by election day in April. No one had ever seen anything like it. The need was pressing; if Ossoff could get 50.001 percent of the vote that night, he’d immediately go to Congress as the district’s representative. If he fell short but still led, he’d face a June runoff.

In the end, he got 48.6 percent and the effort to hand Trump a defeat and serve as the vanguard of an anti-GOP wave had to be extended to June. His closest rival, Karen Handel, only got 20 percent.

And at this point, the fundraising accelerated. Over the next two months, Ossoff raised another $15 million. Ninety-eight percent of the money he raised came from outside the district. (So did Ossoff; he doesn’t live there and couldn’t even vote for himself.) The GOP money machine kicked in too, with outside spending on Handel’s behalf bashing Ossoff.

All that money, $55 million on a single House race, and it was the political equivalent of World War I trench warfare. It’s likely every penny after the original election was wasted, as Ossoff ended up a point lower than he was on April 18 while Handel scooped up every non-Ossoff vote and finished with a very comfortable margin.

There’s no question national Democratic enthusiasm is real. The issue going forward for them and for Republicans goes to sustainability. The disappointment that will follow the Ossoff result could depress that enthusiasm at exactly the wrong moment.

  • daniel1154

Hey Dillweed. When does this impeachment you predicted happen?

Mueller’s WITCH-HUNT Team Just Lost a Major Player!

In a blow to Robert Mueller’s Deep State witch-hunt team, one of the top investigators he handpicked to railroad President Trump has quit.

Peter Strzok, a veteran investigator with the FBI, abruptly left Mueller’s team, and has not yet specified the reasons behind his departure.

Mueller has assembled a team of over two dozen investigators and lawyers, almost of them having clear ties and allegiance to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, or the Democratic Party.

Maybe Strzok didn’t want to be part of such an openly biased team?

Perhaps he felt that the clear and present bias against President Trump was in violation of ethics, or his own code of morality?

Hopefully Strzok will speak out, and America should be curious to know what exactly HE knows about Robert Muller’s team of headhunters and their shady motives…

One of the FBI‘s top investigators, tapped by special counsel Robert Mueller just weeks ago to help lead the probe of Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election, has left Mueller’s team, sources tell ABC News.

The recent departure of FBI veteran Peter Strzok is the first known hitch in a secretive probe that by all public accounts is charging full-steam ahead. Just last week, news surfaced that Mueller’s team had executed a search warrant at the Virginia home of Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. And the week before that ABC News confirmed Mueller is now using a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., to collect documents and other evidence.

It’s unclear why Strzok stepped away from Mueller’s team of nearly two dozen lawyers, investigators and administrative staff. Strzok, who has spent much of his law enforcement career working counterintelligence cases and has been unanimously praised by government officials who spoke with ABC News, is now working for the FBI’s human resources division.

He is no stranger to complex and controversial investigations.

As chief of the FBI’s counterespionage section last year, he helped oversee the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, and he took part in the FBI interview of the Democratic presidential candidate.

Within weeks of the Clinton probe ending, Strzok found his office facing a new challenge: investigating Russia’s alleged efforts to influence last year’s presidential election, including a cyberattack on the Democratic National Committee.

A spokesman for the special counsel’s office declined to comment.

Meanwhile, the FBI has been ordered to turn over more document relative to Clinton, and Bernie Sanders bank fraud charges go foward, not to mention the investigation into Loretta Lynch.

However Republicans have won all 5 special elections under Trump. Seems like the Democrat party is still in the process of destroying itself, a process started under Obama. So now you are saying it will never happen?

WHY DO YOU KEEP LYING ABOUT DEMOCRATS SUPPORTING BUSH JUNIORS INVASION OF IRAQ??? IS IT BECAUSE YOU ARE SO ASHAMED OF HAVING SUPPORTED REPUIBLICANS WHO DID SUPPORT THAT MONUMENTALLY STUPID BLUNDER??? MEANWHILE…

“Assuming a statewide uniform swing in the vote, in order for there to be a Republican majority in the House, Republicans will only need a statewide vote of 45.7 percent. By contrast, Democrats would need 54.8 percent of the vote to get a majority in the House. This is asymmetrical, and evidences a severe bias in favor of Republican voters,” Ruth Greenwood, voting rights counsel at the Campaign Legal Center, wrote in the analysis.

Assuming the same conditions in the Senate, Republicans would need just 46.15 percent of the statewide vote to retain a majority, while Democrats would need a 55.15 percent share.

“By historical standards, these are extraordinarily large figures, revealing an enormous Republican edge,” Greenwood wrote in the memo, which she submitted to lawmakers charged with creating the new maps. Those lawmakers were holding public hearings on the maps across the state on Tuesday.

Even if Democrats perform better than expected ― with up to 5 percentage points more of the vote ― the efficiency gap increases in Republicans’ favor in the proposed House and Senate plans. That result shows the power of gerrymandering: Even though Democrats would be getting more votes, they wouldn’t be able to translate them into more elected lawmakers.

The Supreme Court has never struck down a legislative map on partisan grounds, leading to intense interest in the Wisconsin case and the efficiency gap, because Republican sponsored gerrymandering in at least a dozen states…. and Democratic sponsored gerrymandering in 2 states…. has created a U.S. House of Representatives where Democrats routinely get a majority, or near majority, of the total national vote for House members…. but Republicans just as routinely get 40 and 50 and even 60 member majorities in the House.
Even a Conservative Supreme Court, such as we have had for the past number of years, may well consider that to be a sign of a grossly unfair system, and gerrymandering by Republican dominated states… there are 32 such states… is at the heart of that unfair system.

You mean that fake dossier Clinton paid for to create the fake Russia story about Trump?

Fake “Trump Russia Dossier” Bought and Paid for by Democrats with Ties to Hillary Clinton Campaign

A Clinton-backed group was reportedly behind the promotion of the unverified Russian dossier that contained scurrilous allegations against President Trump, according to the New York Post.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is considering subpoenaing the research firm Fusion GPS as the firm remains silent about the possibility of funding of the dossier.

The firm has a long history of investigating Republicans at the behest of Democrats. Fusion GPS was hired by Democrats to find damaging information on Trump as well as Mitt Romney in 2012.

Planned Parenthood has also used the firm to attack pro-life activists.

The Senate wants to see any communications between Fusion GPS and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who is under investigation for her involvement in Hillary Clinton’s email probe.

Congress, FBI and CIA both cited the dossier when referring to the Russia investigation.

One of the firm’s founders also donated at least $1000 to the Clinton campaign in 2016.

The dossier is “riddled with errors in fact and questionable sourcing,” Paul Sperry, who helped break the story told “Fox & Friends.”

“This was a Democrat operation from top to bottom,” Sperry said.

Hey Comrade Dillweed. Where is that Trump impeachment that you promised. Doesn’t seem to be happening. When does it start?

  • daniel1154

You mean the Iraq war that the Democrats gave us? We ended up in the war because Bill Clinton did not respond to terrorist attacks, Bush inherited the problem, and Democrats like Clinton, Biden, and Schumer all voted for it:

    Iraq: The Democrats’ War

Indeed, the October 2002 resolution authorizing the invasion had the support of the majority of Democratic senators, as well as the support of the Democratic Party leadership in both the House and the Senate.

The ongoing presence of over 50,000 US troops, many thousands of civilian employees and tens of thousands of US-backed mercenaries raises serious questions over the significance of the partial withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. The August 31 deadline marking the “end of US combat operations in Iraq” is not as real or significant a milestone as President Obama implied in his speech. Indeed, hearing for the umpteenth time that the US has “turned a corner” in Iraq, it makes one think that the country must be some kind of dodecahedron.
Nevertheless, with all the attention on the supposed withdrawal of US combat forces, it is important to acknowledge the forces that got us into this tragic conflict in the first place.
It was not just George W. Bush.
Had a majority of either the Republican-controlled House or the Democratic-controlled Senate voted against the resolution authorizing the invasion or had they passed an alternative resolution conditioning such authority on the approval of the use of force from the United Nations Security Council, all the tragic events that have unfolded as a consequence of the March 2003 invasion would have never taken place.
The responsibility for the deaths of over 4,400 American soldiers, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, the waste of nearly one trillion dollars of our national treasury and the rise of terrorism and Islamist extremism that has come as a result of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq rests as much in the hands of the members in Congress who authorized the invasion as it does with the administration that requested the lawmakers’ approval. Indeed, the October 2002 resolution authorizing the invasion had the support of the majority of Democratic senators, as well as the support of the Democratic Party leadership in both the House and the Senate.
On this and other web sites – as well as in many scores of policy reports, newspaper articles, academic journals, and other sources – the tragic consequences of a US invasion of Iraq and a refutation of falsehoods being put forward by the Bush administration to justify it were made available to every member of the House and Senate (see, for example, “The Case Against a War with Iraq”). The 2002 vote authorizing the invasion was not like the vote on the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin resolution on the use of force against North Vietnam, for which Congress had no time for hearings or debate and for which most of those supporting it (mistakenly) thought they were simply authorizing limited short-term retaliatory strikes in response to a specific series of alleged incidents. In contrast, with regard to the resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq, Congress had many months to investigate and debate the administration’s claims that Iraq was a threat as well as the likely implications of a US invasion; members of Congress also fully recognized that the resolution authorized a full-scale invasion of a sovereign nation and a subsequent military occupation for an indefinite period.
    Violating International Legal Covenants
Those who voted in favor of the resolution authorizing the invasion of Iraq did so despite the fact that it violated international legal conventions to which the US government is legally bound to uphold. The resolution constituted a clear violation of the United Nations Charter that, like other ratified international treaties, should be treated as supreme law according to Article VI of the US Constitution. According to articles 41 and 42 of the UN Charter, no member state has the right to enforce any resolution militarily unless the UN Security Council determines that there has been a material breach of its resolution, decides that all nonmilitary means of enforcement have been exhausted and then specifically authorizes the use of military force.
This is what the Security Council did in November 1990 with Resolution 678 in response to Iraq’s ongoing violations of UN Security Council resolutions demanding its withdrawal from Kuwait, but the Security Council did not do so for any subsequent lesser Iraqi violations. The only other exception for the use of force authorized by the charter is in self-defense against armed attack, which even the Bush administration admitted had not taken place.
This effective renunciation of the UN Charter’s prohibition against such wars of aggression constituted an effective repudiation of the post-WW II international legal order. Alternative resolutions, such as one authorizing force against Iraq if authorized by the UN Security Council, were voted down by a bipartisan majority.
    Concerned Scholars and Strategic Analysts
Members of Congress were also alerted by large numbers of scholars of the Middle East, Middle Eastern political leaders, former State Department and intelligence officials and others who recognized that a US invasion would likely result in a bloody insurgency, a rise in Islamist extremism and terrorism, increased sectarian and ethnic conflict, and related problems. Few people I know who are familiar with Iraq have been at all surprised that the US invasion became such a tragedy. Indeed, most of us were in communication with Congressional offices and often with individual members of Congress themselves in the months leading up to the vote warning of the likely consequences of an invasion and occupation. Therefore, claims by leading Democratic supporters of the war that they were unaware of the likely consequences of the invasion are completely false.
The resolution also contained accusations that were known or widely assumed to be false at that time, such as claims of Iraqi support for al-Qaeda terrorists responsible for the September 11, 2001, attacks against the United States. A definitive report by the Department of Defense noted that, not only did no such link exist, but that no such link could have even been reasonably suggested based on the evidence available at that time.
The resolution also falsely claimed that Iraq was “actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability.” In reality, Iraq had long eliminated its nuclear program, a fact that was confirmed in a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 1998, four years prior to the resolution.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Thousands of workers in St. Louis will likely see smaller paychecks starting Monday, when a new Missouri law takes effect barring local government from enacting minimum wages different than the state minimum.

The law is drawing protests in St. Louis and in Kansas City, where a recent vote approving a higher minimum wage is essentially nullified without ever really taking effect.

The impact is direct in St. Louis, where the minimum wage had increased to $10 after the Missouri Supreme Court sided with the city in a two-year legal battle. Days after the Supreme Court ruling, Missouri’s Republican-led Legislature passed a statewide uniform minimum wage requirement. The state minimum wage is $7.70 per hour. Republican Gov. Eric Greitens declined to veto the bill, allowing it to become law.

An estimated 135,000 St. Louis workers saw pay raises after the court ruling, and the city’s plan had called for the minimum wage to increase to $11 per hour in 2018.

State Sen. Dan Hegeman, a Republican from rural northwest Missouri, said the higher minimum would force some employers to either cut jobs or move, but even most business owners in the affected cities said just the opposite would happen. If a half million workers got significant pay raises, it would cause business to boom in numerous areas, as hundreds of thousands of workers… just in the major cities alone… would finally have some extra income that they could spend on something other than basic necessities. This has been borne out over the last 79 years by actual experience, all over the United States.

“You end up having fewer jobs and you do a disservice to the workers,” Hegeman said. “In my heart of hearts, I really think it hurts people in the long run.” Almost all wage and employment professionals strongly disagree, and note that within a year to two years, employment in areas that raise the minimum wage, even dramatically, increases strongly in almost every instance.

Supporters of the higher wage say it’s virtually impossible to live on $7.70 an hour. In St. Louis, a campaign was launched last month to pressure businesses to keep the $10 minimum wage. And most major employers want to go along with the higher minimum wages, but say their hands are tied by the state law… and by pressure from wealthy investors who believe that higher wages would cut into their stock valuations and dividends.
FREAKING GREEDY SELFISH ARROGANT STUPID REPUBLICANS!!! FREAK YOU GREEDY AHOLES!!! GET OF YOUR LAZY REPUBLICAN RUMPS AND DO THE FREAKING WORK YOURSELVES!!!

And now, the most notorious liar in political history, Bill Clinton.

BILL CLINTON, STILL LYING AFTER ALL THESE YEARS
Nearly twelve years after the end of Bill Clinton’s presidency it has become easy to forget this central fact about the former president: he is a pathological liar. For better or for worse, Clinton’s active participation in this year’s presidential campaign reminds us of this sad reality.

Take, for example, this exchange between Clinton and Fareed Zakaria:

ZAKARIA: Is Mitt Romney right that the only thing you can do with the Israeli-Palestinian issue is kick the can down the road?

CLINTON: No, it is accurate that the United States cannot make peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. They have to do that. What we need to do is maximize the attractiveness of doing it and minimize the risks of doing it. We can do that.

And if you look at it, President Bush, when he took office, the second President Bush, I’ll never forget he said, “You know the names of every street in the old city and look what it got you. I’m not going to fool with this now.”

And immediately the death rate went up among Israelis and Palestinians because there was nothing going on.

However, as Seth Mandel explains, something was going on when Bush took office — the Second Intifada, which began under President Bill Clinton. The “death rate” went up because the Palestinians launched a terror war against Israeli civilians following the abject failure of Clinton’s Camp David peace talks. For this reason, Clinton’s attempt to blame the increased death rate of Bush’s inactivity is extremely deceptive.

It’s also fundamentally dishonest. The import of Clinton’s comment to Zakaria is that Bush rejected Clinton’s preferred course when he declined to engage in (or “fool with,” to use the perfect turn of phrase Clinton attributes to “W”) the “peace process.”

    Now, for Hilary Clinton:

Poll: Voters Overwhelmingly Think Hillary Is A Liar

A new poll released this morning by Quinnipiac University shows that Hillary’s reputation is in tatters as the 2016 race for the White House shifts into high gear.

When voters were asked to say the first word that came to mind when they thought of Hillary Clinton, the most popular responses were “liar,” “dishonest,” and “untrustworthy.”

    Hillary Dirty Liar
Based on the results of the free association question, the registered voters who were polled appear to have busted out the thesaurus in order to capture Hillary Clinton’s sordid history of ethics scandals: crook, criminal, phony, cheat, deceptive, sneaky, devious.

Of all the candidates polled, Hillary Clinton scored the worst on the issue of honesty, with 61 percent of voters saying she is neither honest nor trustworthy. Unsurprisingly, given views of her trustworthiness, Clinton’s favorability ratings are also under water. A majority of voters polled — 51 percent — have an unfavorable view of the former First Lady. Thirty-nine percent said they had a favorable view of Clinton.

The bad news for Hillary doesn’t stop there, though. The poll also gauged the electorate’s appetite for a Joe Biden candidacy. According to the poll, Biden appears to have a better chance than Hillary at winning a ticket to the White House:

“On the Democratic side, Secretary Hillary Clinton continues her slide while Sen. Bernie Sanders continues to narrow the gap,” [Quinnipiac assistant polling director Tim] Malloy added. “But the real news is the man who isn’t there – yet. Vice President Joseph Biden has the best appeal in general election matchups against top Republicans.

“Note to Biden: They like you, they really like you, or they like you more than the others.

“If he is sitting on the fence, his scores in the matchups and his favorability ratings may compel him to say, ‘Let’s do this.’”
Quinnipiac polled 1,053 registered voters between August 20 and 25, and the poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percent.

That is so funny; “a national polling company for The Resistance”. You really love fake news Dillweed.

Now for real news, a poll conducted by a real polling company:

POLL: 8 IN 10 AMERICANS BELIEVE OBAMA IS A LIAR
    APRIL 20, 2014

Eight in ten Americans think President Obama is a liar.

According to a poll conducted jointly by Democratic and Republican pollsters, 61 percent of respondents believe Barack Obama lies at least some of the time on important issues. Another 20 percent said the President lies “every now and then.” Only 15 percent said Obama was “completely truthful.”

Predictably, Republicans were more likely to believe Obama is a liar. 85 percent said he lies some or most of the time, but even only 31 percent of Democrats said the President is completely truthful.

Independents were slightly more likely to believe President Obama at least “some of the time” – 63 percent – than the total number of respondents – 61 percent.

37 percent of registered voters said the President lied “most of the time.” Here’s the breakdown by political affiliation and demographics of groups who said Obama lied most or some of the time:

    Democrats: 38 percent

    Republicans: 85 percent

    Independents: 63 percent

    Men: 64 percent

    Women: 60 percent

    Whites: 66 percent

    Blacks: 38 percent

    College Degree: 59 percent

    No College Degree: 64 percent

The poll was conducted April 13-15 of 1,012 registered voters. The polling firms were Democratic pollsters Anderson Robbins Research and Republican pollsters Shaw & Company Research. The margin of error was ±3 percentage points. Democrats represented 39 percent of the sample, Republicans represented 38 percent of the sample and Independents 20 percent.

WELL.. AT LEAST YOU ARE LIKE DONALD TRUMP IN THIS ONE CRITICAL WAY…..

Well, it’s official. 69% of Americans agree that Donald Trump is “pathological liar.” So says our scientific, national poll.

As you might expect, 84% of all Democrats think that Trump is a pathological liar, and only 7% disagree. Independents are independent enough to acknowledge this same hard truth: 67% say yes, the President of the United States is a pathological liar, and only 19% say no.

But here’s the kicker: Even 54% of Republicans recognize that Donald Trump is a pathological liar, and only 35% disagree.

So they hate him, too. He may be their b*st**d, but he’s still a b*st**d. And they know it.

(Our poll was a random sample of 1245 Americans, conducted by a national polling company for The Resistance earlier this month. The margin of error was 2.8%.)

Remarkably, pretty much everyone agrees that Trump is a pathological liar: 71% of Whites, 69% of African-Americans, 62% of Asians and 58% of Hispanics. Same thing with religion: 77% of all Muslims, 76% of all Jews, 68% of non-evangelical Christians, 67% of Catholics and 66% of Evangelicals concur that Donald Trump is a pathological liar.

Congratulations, Donald Trump. You’ve re-united the United States – against you.

What should you do? Tell all your friends, around the water cooler and on social media. That’s what The Resistance has to do. Tell the world and show the world that Donald Trump is a pathological liar – make sure that everyone sees it, and everyone knows it.

  • daniel1154

You just don’t know your history Comrade Dillweed:

Republicans: The Party of Civil Rights Since 1854

“When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed and signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson (D), a greater percentage of Republicans in each chamber voted for the legislation compared to Democrats, many of whom were still clinging to the segregationist and racial policies of the past.”

Presidential campaigns are unpredictable, as the sudden national debate about the Confederate flag that flies over the South Carolina state capitol demonstrates. At a time when America is threatened by ISIS, expansionist Russia, and China, plus a dreary economy who would have guessed we would be thrust into a discussion of flags and symbols from a long concluded conflict?
Yet, when a story like this makes it into the national headlines there’s a reflexive struggle to define the narrative. Republicans who fail to engage in the debate risk being defined by our opponents – just ask Mitt Romney.
This isa great opportunity to discuss and compare the history of the two political parties. If we’re going to have a debate about history, that’s one our team will win if we have the courage to do so.
First, let’s remind people of how the Republican Party came to be. At its origin, the Republican Party was a single issue party founded on the idea of abolishing slavery across the entire nation. We fielded our first Presidential candidate in 1856 with Californian John Fremont (yes, the city of Fremont, California is named for him). Something of a scoundrel with a colorful past, Fremont lost but his candidacy paved the way for the first Republican president: Abraham Lincoln of Illinois.
The Republican Lincoln was so anti-slavery that his election prompted Southern leaders bent on protecting slavery as an institution to begin withdrawing from the union, quickly forming the Confederate States of America on the principles of “states rights” and preserving a southern slave-based economy.
Lincoln was determined to both preserve the union while putting an end to the institution of slavery, issuing the Emancipation Proclamation as an exercise of his war time powers. Concerned that following a Union victory the courts could find the Emancipation Proclamation no longer valid, Lincoln personally championed passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution to permanently rid the country of slavery.
Which party in Congress championed the 13th amendment? The Republicans. And which party stood for the most part in opposition? The Democrats.
Following southern Reconstruction, Democrats quickly regained control of virtually all the southern state capitols and while the institution of slavery was abolished, racist policies continued in the form of segregation and other manifestations of “Jim Crow laws.” Many Democrats invented, preserved and defended these policies for the next hundred years throughout the “solid South.” Solid meaning solidly Democrat.
America subsequently fought two major world conflicts under Democratic presidencies: World War I under Woodrow Wilson and World War II under FDR and then briefly under Harry S. Truman. Yet, both Wilson and Roosevelt preserved segregation of the armed forces as a matter of federal policy.
Finally, in 1948, Democrat President Truman of Missouri ended segregation in the military with Executive Order 9981. He deserves great credit for this.
Republican President Dwight Eisenhower’s leadership from 1953 to 1961 had a profound impact on the advancement of civil rights beyond the military.
Eisenhower appointed former California governor (and former California Republican Party Chairman) Earl Warren to serve as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Warren’s role was critical in reaching a unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 ending public school segregation.
When the segregationist Governor Orval Faubus (D) of Arkansas defied the Supreme Court’s ruling in Brown to allow African American children to enroll in Little Rock’s Central High School, it was Eisenhower who nationalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent in the 101st Airborne to restore order allow the “Little Rock Nine” African American children to register for school.
Ten years later when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed and signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson (D), a greater percentage of Republicans in each chamber voted for the legislation compared to Democrats, many of whom were still clinging to the segregationist and racial policies of the past.
The Civil Rights movement in America has been bi-partisan, and no party can claim a monopoly over it. However, a candid look at history shows that the Republican Party and its leaders played a central role in the advancement of civil rights in America.
The party was founded specifically to abolish slavery. Lincoln personally championed passage of the constitutional amendment that purged the institution. Eisenhower appointed the chief architect of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision and sent into federal troops to make it stick.
And that confederate state flag in South Carolina that’s gotten so much attention? Erected in 1962 by a Democrat legislature under Democrat Governor Fritz Hollings as a show of defiance to the growing civil rights movement.
That the flag will come down under a Republican governor and a Republican legislature is not ironic at all. It’s entirely consistent with the spirit of the Republican Party’s founding and proud history.

AFTER REAL… MODERATE OR LIBERAL… DEMOCRATS RAMMED THROUGH THE CIVIL RIGHTS LAWS OF THE 1960’S AND 1970’S… AND MADE CRYSTAL CLEAR THAT THEY WERE GOING TO ENFORCE THOSE LAWS…. MANY MILLIONS OF CONSERVATIVE… MOSTLY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS… BEGAN SIDING WITH REPUBLICANS… OR VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS… OR BECOMING OUTRIGHT REPUBLICANS THEMSELVES!!! THAT PROCESS TOOK ABOUT 30 YEARS… BUT IN 1994, THAT PROCESS PRETTY MUCH FINISHED ITSELF, AS REPUBLICANS SWEPT INTO CONTROL OF BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS BECAUSE MANY MILLIONS OF MOSTLY SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS FINALLY REALIZED THAT BILL CLINTON… JUST LIKE JIMMY CARTER BEFORE HIM… WOULD NOT GO ALONG WITH THEIR CONSERVATIVE RACIST AGENDA… SO THEY SWITCHED TO BEING REPUBLICANS!!! THAT FACT EXPLAINS WHY CONSERVATIVES HATE AND DESPISE BOTH CARTER AND CLINTON… THEY WERE SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS WHO SIMPLY REFUSED TO GO ALONG WITH THE BLATANTLY RACIST CONSERVATIVE SOUTHERN AGENDA…. AND CONSERVATIVES HAVE BEEN DOING THEIR BEST TO SPREAD LIES AND HATE ABOUT THEM, EVER SINCE!!! AND IN THE 20 PLUS YEARS SINCE THE REPUBLICAN REVOLUTION OF 1994, THOSE CONSERVATIVE SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS TURNED CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS… HAVE EFFECTIVELY GAINED TOTAL CONTROL OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY… AND OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! NOW… IF YOU DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THAT… THEN YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING… AT ALL… BECAUSE THAT IS THE NUMBER ONE CENTRAL POLITICAL REALITY OF THE LAST 50 YEARS OF AMERICAN HISTORY!!! BUT THEN… YOU MAKE CLEAR,,, VIA PRETTY MUCH ALL OF YOUR POSTS… THAT YOU ARE A MONUMENTALLY CLUELESS.. IF NOT MONUMENTALLY STUPID… PERSON!!! YOU DO NOT KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING… AND YOU SPEW YOUR IGNORANCE AND YOUR RIGHT WING PROPAGANDA ALL OVER THE PLACE… AND YET… YOU EXPECT WELL INFORMED LIBERALS LIKE MYSELF TO LET YOU GET AWAY WITH YOUR LIES AND YOUR IGNORANCE SPEWING???? FAT CHANCE, BUDDY!!! I AM A REAL AMERICAN… AND REAL AMERICANS CALL A SPADE A SPADE… AND I AM CALLING YOU A RIGHT WING PUPPET AND IGNORAMUS!!! AND SO WOULD TENS OF MILLIONS OF OTHER REAL AMERICANS… THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM LIBERALS AND DEMOCRATS!!!

Very rare for someone to swith Republican to Democrat. It’s almost always the other way around, as people get older and smarter. Particularly working people.

More Blue-Collar Democrats Switching Parties for Trump

I wrote a few weeks back that thousands of former Democrats in Massachusetts had switched their party affiliation to Republican or unaffiliated. I guessed that this was probably a good sign for the Trump campaign, and well, the numbers don’t lie. Now, history appears to be repeating itself: In Pennsylvania, 46,000 people have switched their affiliation from Democrat to Republican.

Nearly 46,000 Pennsylvania Democrats have gone Republican since the start of 2016, twice as many as have shifted the other way, as a wild primary fight continues to upend the business of politics as usual and challenge the status quo.
Needless to say, much of this movement is being attributed to the rise of Donald Trump and the so-called “Ditch and Switch” movement, which leans on lifelong Democrats to abandon the party, register Republican and help ensure Trump’s place in the November general election.
A website launched by two North Carolina sisters calling on Democrats to switch political parties and embrace Trump says, “For many years the Democratic Party has promoted agendas that most Americans did not agree with. Our country is deeply divided, and the silent majority has been bullied into silence by political posturing and underhanded agendas that favor the few while excluding the majority.”
Pennsylvania votes on April 26. The state has a closed primary. There hasn’t been much polling out of the Keystone State, but Trump has a solid lead.

I HAVE NEVER ONCE SUPPORTED ANY OF THE LEADERS OF RUSSIA… WHETHER CZARIST, COMMUNIST, OR CRONY CAPITALISTS… KLEPTOCRATS… LIKE TRUMP’S BUDDY PUTIN IS!!! BUT THEN… I WAS ONLY A REPUBLICAN FOR MAYBE A YEAR… BACK WHEN I WAS STILL YOUNG AND STUPID!!! BUT YOU ARE OLD AND STUPID… AND YOU CLEARLY LOVE RIGHT WINGERS LIKE… THE CZARISTS AND THE COMMUNIST ELITE AND THE KLEPTOCRATS WHO HAVE RUN RUSSIA FOR THE LAST SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS!!! ALL… ALL… ALLL OF THOSE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENTS WERE RIGHT WING DICTATORSHIPS… WHICH YOU CLEARLY SUPPORT!!!

  • daniel1154

Leaders of the Soviet Union, your communist heaven, were popularly elected? You supported them, but you don’t accept the popularly elected President of the United States as your President. Says it all Comrade Dillweed.

  • JohnDille

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH POPULARLY ELECTED COMMUNISTS AND SOCIALISTS OR EVEN CAPITALISTS!!! AFTER ALL..I KNOW A LOT OF CHURCH GOING PEOPLE… ALL OF WHOM ARE COMMUNISTS…. MOST ESPECIALLY MORMONS… WHO TOTALLY SURROUND ME HERE IN MORMON COUNTRY… AND WHO ALL VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS… AND CATHOLICS… WHO WILL VOTE FOR ANYONE… EVEN AN IDIOT LIKE TRUMP!!! MORMONS BUILT THEIR ENTIRE RELIGIOUS SYSTEM AROUND COMMUNISM… SO IT IS RATHER BIZARRE THAT THEY ARE ALL REPUBLICANS… JUST LIKE YOU… AND COMMUNISTS… JUST LIKE YOU!!! BUT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH FASCISTS AND DICTATORS AND OTHER RIGHT WINGERS!!! I BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY… REAL POPULAR DEMOCRACY… AND RIGHT WINGERS LIKE YOU HATE THE IDEA THAT ORDINARY PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE ANY SAY… AT ALL… IN HOW THEIR COMMUNITIES AND NATION IS RUN!!! TOO BAD THAT YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THAT ACTUALLY IS… JUST LIKE YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT COMMUNISM AND SOCIALISM AND CAPITALISM ACTUALLY ARE!!!

MOST COMMUNIST NATIONS HAVE BEEN RUN BY RIGHT WINGERS… AND SINCE YOU ARE TOO STUPID TO KNOW THAT, I CAN SEE THE SOURCE OF YOUR CONFUSION!!!

  • daniel1154

Learn your history Dillweed. It was the leftists the Rosenberts that transmitted nuclear weapon designs to the Soviet Union when at that time the United States was the only country with nuclear weapons.

Of course the political left defended them because the left has always been on the side of their fellow communists. The left was upset when they were justifiably executed, because the political left always defended Russia. It’s one of the reasons their accusations about Russian Collusion on Trump’s behalf is so laughable.

Roger Stone speaks to members of the conservative group America First at the Marriott in Boca Raton, Florida: Michael Ares/Palm Beach Post/AP

One of Donald Trump’s closest advisers has warned a bloody civil war would erupt if the US President was impeached.

Roger Stone predicted “an insurrection like you’ve never seen” if politicians sought to remove the US leader from the White House and claimed any politician who voted to topple him “would be endangering their own life”.

Talk of impeachment has endured throughout Mr Trump’s presidency amid allegations of his widespread business corruption and fraudulent deals, and of collusion between Russia and the billionaire Republican’s election campaign.

Support for his removal from office has risen to 40 per cent among the American public, according to a poll by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) earlier this month.

But Mr Stone, a long-time Trump confidant and former official in Richard Nixon’s administration, suggested impeachment proceedings would lead to an armed
    uprising among the President’s supporters.

“Try to impeach him, just try it. You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection like you’ve never seen,” he told entertainment website, TMZ. “The people will not stand for impeachment. A politician that votes for it
would be endangering their own life.”

Asked if he believed there would be “some sort of civil war” if the President was impeached, he replied: “Yes, that’s what I think will happen.

“Both sides are heavily armed… There would be violence on both sides.”

The Republican strategist and self-proclaimed “dirty trickster” claimed he was “not advocating violence” but “predicting it”. HE IS CELARLY ADVOCATING VIOLENCE… NO MATTER WHAT HE SAYS!!! NOW WE KNOW WHY THE FAR RIGHT HAS BEEN DOING ALL THEY COULD… VIA THE NRA… TO ARM ALL THE RGHT WINGERS OUT THERE!!! THEY WERE AQRMING THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AN OPPORTUNITY LIKE THIS… TO OVERTHROW THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BASED ON SOME FLIMSY EXCUSE THAT THE RIGHT WING MEDIA MASTERS COULD USE TO STIR UP ENOUGH HATE AND DIVISIONS TO DO THAT SORT OF THING!!!

Mr Stone, who was an adviser to Mr Trump’s presidential campaign and is thought to still speak to him regularly, said: “The people who are calling for impeachment are the people who didn’t vote for him. They need to get over it, they lost.” YEAH… AMERICA LOST BIG WHEN DONALD TRUMP WON THE ELECTION ON A TECHNICALITY!!! THE 80 OR SO ELECTORAL VOTERS WHO PUT HIM INTO OFFICE OUGHT TO BE REALLY PROUD OF THEMSELVES!!! THEY COMMITTED TREASON SIMPLY BY FOLLOWING THE RULES… JUST LIKE HITLER’S SUPPORTERES WOULD HAVE DONE IN THOSE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES!!! I SIMPLY FOLLOWED THE RULES… I SIMPLUY FOLLOWED ORDERS… WAS BY FAR THE NUMBER ONE DEFENSE OF ALL THE NAZZZZIS PLEADING THEIR OWN DEFENSE AT THE NUREMBURG AND OTHER SUCH TRIALS!!!

  • daniel1154

I guess they do have options since Obama assured that they could develop their nukes. Now Trump has to deal with the mess.

  • JohnDille

North Korea has options and therefore the upper hand in negotiations, at least for now. It can press on with its nuclear program, or it can, in theory, negotiate a redeployment of U.S. forces. If there are no negotiations, North Korea gets a nuclear weapons program. If there are negotiations, and the negotiations fail, North Korea gets a nuclear weapons program. If there are negotiations, and the negotiations succeed, North Korea will lose its nuclear weapons program but gain a tremendous amount of concessions from the United States. Either way, North Korea comes out ahead.

That has been true for the last 60 years or so… the only thing new is that Donald Trump is now POTUS, and he clearly has no understanding… at all… of how international… or even domestic… diplomacy must be carried out. He is a loose screw in an otherwise carefully constructed machine, and is thus a dangerous player domestically and internationally.

Of course, agreements have been made and broken before. If North Korea surrendered its program, the U.S. could renege on whatever promises it made, re-establish military ties with South Korea, and re-deploy its naval and air forces. The government in Pyongyang understands as much – even expects as much – so it is highly unlikely to reverse course on its program. North Korea has long been in a win win situation, because the only thing any nation can do to change things… is to go to war. And war would be an option too terrible for any sane American or Korean leader to even contemplate. Which is why everyone… all over the planet… is terrified of what Donald Trump might do.

It is easier to hold talks than to reach a settlement. It is easier to reach a settlement than to honor it. And this is why wars happen. Wars create a finality that diplomacy can’t. Sometimes. After all… a war created the current stalemate on the Korean Peninsula.

The strange story of a ‘Blacks for Trump’ guy standing behind the president at his Phoenix rally

He is variously known as Michael Symonette, Maurice Woodside and Mikael Israel. (Aug. 23, 2017)

    Katie Mettler Washington Post

At a number of political rallies over the last two years, a character calling himself “Michael the Black Man” has appeared in the crowd directly behind Donald
Trump, impossible to miss and possibly planted.

He holds signs that scream “BLACKS FOR TRUMP” and wears a T-shirt proclaiming with equal conviction that “TRUMP & Republicans Are Not Racist.”

Almost always, he plugs his wild website, Gods 2. com, across his chest.

And so it was Tuesday night, before a crowd of Trump supporters in Phoenix who had come to watch another show. There was the president, whipping up the wildly
cheering crowd, and then there was Michael the Black Man, chanting just beyond Trump’s right shoulder in that trademark T-shirt.

The presence of Michael the Black Man – variously known as Michael Symonette, Maurice Woodside and Mikael Israel – has inspired not only trending Twitter hashtags but a great deal of curiosity and Google searches. Internet sleuths
find the man’s bizarre URL, a easily-accessible gateway to his strange and checkered past.

The radical fringe activist from Miami once belonged to a violent black supremacist religious cult and he runs a handful of amateur, unintelligible conspiracy websites. He has called Barack Obama “The Beast” and Hillary Clinton
a Ku Klux Klan member. Oprah, he says, is the devil.

Most curiously, in the 1990s, he was charged, then acquitted, with conspiracy to commit two murders.

But Michael the Black Man loves President Donald Trump. And President Trump’s campaign apparently loves him right back.

It’s unclear if the White House or President Trump’s campaign officials are aware of Michael the Black Man’s turbulent history or extreme political views, but he and his followers have stumped for the president at his inauguration andthe Super Bowl.

In July, he posted video footage of himself at the Mar-a-Lago Club, President Trump’s so-called “Winter White House,” for the Republican Party of Palm Beach County’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

Wearing a black dinner coat over a white “BLACKS FOR TRUMP” T-shirt, Michael the Black Man posed with the local GOP’s chairman, apparently took a photo of first lady Melania Trump and recorded a selfie video that showed his arm slung over the shoulder of Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to shut down the government over border wall funding, said the North American Free Trade Agreement is likely to
be terminated and signaled that he was prepared to pardon former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is anathema to the Latino community.

“I saw you on TV with Trump,” Scott can be heard telling Michael the Black Man. “You did a good job.”

At a campaign rally in late October 2016, down in Sanford, Fla., Trump even gave the “BLACKS FOR TRUMP” signs an approving shout-out.

“Look at those signs behind me,” Trump said to the roaring crowd. “Blacks for Trump. I like those signs.”

The candidate, wearing a camouflage “Make America Great Again hat,” turned to the sign-holders and offered a thumbs-up. Michael the Black Man, standing behind Trump and grinning widely, gave a thumbs-up right back.

“Blacks for Trump,” the candidate said again. “You watch. You watch. Those signs are great, thank you.”

The signs drew national attention at the time, but not because of Michael the Black Man. Rally watchers came away perplexed after one event when white women were seen waving the signs. That same month, New York Magazine and the Miami New Times published articles recounting the sign maker’s story.

Before he started calling himself Michael the Black Man, the man identified as Maurice Woodside joined a cult led by Hulon Mitchell Jr., who went by Yahweh Ben Yahweh and eventually turned violent. The two men met when Woodside was 21 years old.

Woodside followed Yahweh’s fiery teachings for years, even after the leader allegedly denied his dying, cancer-stricken mother medical treatment and instead prescribed her “vegetables, nuts, and herbs,” prosecutors once said in court, according to the New Times.

In the early 1990s, the New Times reported, Woodside, Yahweh and 14 other members of the cult were arrested by federal agents and charged with racketeering and conspiracy in 14 murders and a firebombing.

Ricardo Woodside, Maurice’s brother, had once been in the cult but left after his mother’s death. Woodside testified in court that his brother had helped beat a man named Aston Green, who argued with Yahweh and was taken to the Florida Everglades and beheaded with a dull machete, reported the New Times.

He also testified that Maurice Woodside was the cult member who stabbed a Louisiana man named Leonard Dupree in the eye with a sharpened stick.

Yahweh was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Maurice Woodside, who denies the cult was violent or murderous, was acquitted along with six others.

In later years, Woodside changed his name to Maurice Symonette. Eventually, he became Michael the Black Man, an anti-Democrat – or as he calls them, Demon-crat
    – who preaches the Bible and abhors homosexuality. He started a private radio station, BOSS 104.1 FM, to broadcast his radical beliefs, and began causing a ruckus in public.

At an Obama campaign speech in Coral Gables, Fla., in 2008, he and a group of other protesters loudly interrupted the future president, shouting “Barack, go home!” and waving signs that declared “Obama endorsed by the KKK,” reported the Miami New Times.

One sign, held by Michael the Black Man, read: “Blacks against Obama.”

His website, Gods 2. com, proclaims on the landing page: “LATIN, BLACK AND WHITE MUST UNITE!”

Links on that site lead to another one, honest facts. com, which claims that the “Real KKK Slave Masters” are “CHEROKEE Indians (Hidden Babylonians).”

The proclamations only get more unhinged from there: “ISIS AND HILLARY RACE WAR PLOT TO KILL ALL BLACK & WHITE WOMAN OF AMERICA WITH MS-13.”

And: “YAHWEH BEN YAHWEH Taught Us To Vote Republican & is Now VINDICATED.”

And: “BLACKS FOR TRUMP SUPPORTS SENATOR JEFF SESSIONS”

The site also displays a photo of a Confederate flag with the caption: “Cherokee Democratic Flag.”

AH, YES… ANOTHER FINE, MENTALLY BALANCED NON VIOLENT RUMP SUPPORTER!!! THIS GUY SOUNDS LIKE A BLACK VERSION OF DANIEL THE DIMWIT!!! IS THAT YOU ALWAYS STANDING BEHIND TRUMP WAVING A RUSSIAN COMMIES FOR TRUMP SIGN??? IT SURE LOOKS LIKE YOU!!!

  • daniel1154

Very naive post. It had to do with buying votes more than anything else.

Good. A few fewer leftists in Government.

When the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities resigned en masse last week, the first letter of each paragraph of their letter spelled out “RESIST” — a watchword for opponents of the Trump administration.

If there wasn’t so much racial discrimination within the U.S.A., (remember: “restrictive covenants”), in housing and jobs there would never have been a “housing crisis” in 2008, because we would all be living next to each other in truly racially integrated cities, suburbs and yes; racially integrated families. Racism funded the South in our early years, (at the cost of many African and other Black families), but it has cost us dearly ever since. Racism cost money, wastes talented Black contributions and destroys the U.S.A.’s credibility around the world. With “Dump Trump” running the government promoting racial division, building a wall between the U.S.A. and Mexico, threatening a government shutdown to get his way, and threatening to go about “…killing terrorists…” as opposed to “nation building” the United States of America is seriously in need of rational, equitable, data driven and ethical leadership!

  • JohnDille

Washington (AFP) – A US government science envoy on Wednesday became the latest official to resign over Donald Trump’s refusal to condemn neo-Nazis and the latest to send a coded message of defiance via his resignation letter.

Daniel Kammen, who had been in government service since 1996 and served as a state department envoy since 2016, said Trump had “harmed the quality of life in the United States, our standing abroad, and the sustainability of the planet.”

But apparently it was Trump’s equivocation about white supremacists’ who led a deadly march in Charlottesville, Virginia that was the final straw.

“My decision to resign is in response to your attacks on the core values of the United States. Your failure to condemn white supremacists and neo-Nazis has domestic and international ramifications,” Kammen wrote.

But within the one page letter was a less obvious message — an acrostic, with the first letter of each paragraph spelling “IMPEACH.”

Kammen is the latest in a series of officials and panelists to resign their posts — from members of the arts to business leaders — and is not the first to deliver a hidden message in doing so.

When the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities resigned en masse last week, the first letter of each paragraph of their letter spelled out “RESIST” — a watchword for opponents of the Trump administration.

At least 3.5 million more people are on U.S. election rolls than are eligible to vote. Some 3.5 million more people are registered to vote in the U.S. than are alive among America’s adult citizens. Such staggering inaccuracy is an engraved invitation to voter fraud. The Election Integrity Project of Judicial Watch — a Washington-based legal-watchdog group — analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011–2015 American Community Survey and last month’s statistics from the federal Election Assistance Commission. The latter included figures provided by 38 states. According to Judicial Watch, eleven states gave the EAC insufficient or questionable information. Pennsylvania’s legitimate numbers place it just below the over-registration threshold.

My tabulation of Judicial Watch’s state-by-state results yielded 462 counties where the registration rate exceeded 100 percent. There were 3,551,760 more people registered to vote than adult U.S. citizens who inhabit these counties. “That’s enough over-registered voters to populate a ghost-state about the size of Connecticut,” Judicial Watch attorney Robert Popper told me.

  • JohnDille

WICHITA, Kansas (AP) — A conservative firebrand promoting President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud oversees a Kansas election system that threw out at least three times as many ballots as any similarly sized state did, fueling concerns about massive voter suppression should its practices become the national standard.

Only six states — all among the top 10 in population — discarded more votes during the 2016 election than the 33rd-largest state of Kansas, according to data collected by the bipartisan U.S. Election Assistance Commission, a federal agency that certifies voting systems. Kansas’ 13,717 rejected ballots even topped the 13,461 from Florida, which has about seven times as many residents.

Critics of Kansas’ election system argue its unusually high number of discarded ballots reflects policies shaped over several elections that have resulted in many legitimate voters being kept off voter rolls in an effort to crack down on a few illegitimate ones.

There is particular attention on Kansas now because its secretary of state, Kris Kobach, is co-chairman of Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. The architect of strict election policies requiring voter ID and proof of citizenship, Kobach has suggested Kansas’ rules could become a national panacea for voter fraud, which Trump — without providing proof — blames for Hillary Clinton’s popular vote victory.

“It is somewhat ironic that (Kobach) is claiming to really care about the integrity of voter rolls when this suggests that there may be a real problem that Kansas has with keeping voter rolls up to date,” said Wendy Weiser, director of the Brennan Center for Justice’s Democracy Program.

Yes, the Bush bailouts that Obama continued and escalated. A mistake when Bush did them, then Obama made them a crony capitalist centerpiece of his administration and expanded them. As for facts and the 2008 economic collapse, it was the Clinton Community Reinvestment act that collapsed the economy.

During their two terms, the Clintons built the framework for the eventually collapse in 2008.

It was the Clinton Whitehouse who took Jimmy Carter’s dopey Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) idea and pumped it full of steroids. Carter’s plan, through the force of government, was to provide “affordable housing” to those he deemed less fortunate. The Clintons doubled down on Carter’s initiative and used their stooge Janet Reno, to force banks to offer mortgages to those who could not afford to purchase nor had a prayer of paying back the home loan.

It was the Bush administration who tried to rein in this government thuggery, but democrats like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Maxine Waters convinced America that all was well in the housing industry. It clearly wasn’t.

Bush got his tax cut plan passed in 2003. “From 2003 to 2007, the tax cuts helped push real GDP up 15.2%, or more than 3% a year.” In two terms since, there hasn’t been a single year with a 3% growth rate – not one – and most were not even close. In 2003, the evil rich, or 1%, paid $256 billion in taxes. By 2007, after four years of tax cuts for the rich, those same wicked one percenters paid $471 billion.

Despite Bush’s best efforts, it was the CRA policy so aggressively impelled by the Clintons that did us in. By 2007, there were almost 27 million subprime mortgages in America, totaling over $4.5 trillion. No economy can withstand this onslaught.

As clear as day – this is what caused the 2008 collapse.

  • JohnDille

BUSH JUNIOR IMPLEMENTED THE BAIL OUTS IN 2007 AND 2008… IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ENTIRE GLOBAL FINANCIAL SYSTEM FROM COLLAPSING… AS IT WAS ON THE BRINK OF DOING!!! THEN, THE FED CONTINUED THE QE STARTED IN 2001 AS A RESPONSE TO THE 9/11 ATTACKS… IN ORDER TO HELP THE US ECONOMY RECOVER FROM THE DEEPEST RECESSION IN ALMOST 80 YEARS!!! U.S MANUFACTURING JOBS PEAKED IN 1979… AT OVER 20 MILLION… ALMOST A QUARTER OF ALL US JOBS… THEN STARTED TO PLUMMET DURING THE REAGAN DEPRESSION OF THE EARLY TO MID 1980’S… AND MANUFACTURING JOBS CONTINUED TO FALL TO BARELY 12 MILLION…. UNTIL THEY BEGAN TO RECOVER… SLOWLY… WHILE OBAMA WAS IN OFFICE!!! MANUFACURING JOBS… AND JOBS IN GENERAL… SOARED UNDER CLINTON AND THEN AGAIN… MUCH MORE SLOWLY… UNDER OBAMA… AND WERE HAMMERED UNDER REAGAN… AND THEN UNDER BUSH JUNIOR!!! THOSE ARE THE ACTUAL FACTS!!! TOO BAD YOU HAVE NO ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACTUAL FACTS!!!

  • daniel1154

The stock market went up because Obama lavished money on his rich friends through quantitative easing. As for employment under Obama:

Barack Obama Tells Another Whopper—–He Did Not Create 12.8 Million Jobs

There has not been one “new” manufacturing job created during Obama’s term in office; and, in fact, the 12.3 million manufacturing jobs reported for June was still 10% below the level of December 2007, and nearly 30% lower than the 17.3 million manufacturing jobs reported in January 2000.

So the actual facts are not evidence of a trend reversal; they’re an exercise in political hogwash.

Indeed, if you take the entire high-productivity, high-pay goods production sector—-energy, mining, manufacturing and construction—the trend is even worse. As shown below, the 19.6 million goods producing jobs in June was 5 million lower than in January 2000. Is there any wonder that the median real household income has declined by 7% over the last 15 years?

SO… UNDER OBAMA… THE STOCK AND BOND MARKETS ROSE AT A FAIRLY REGULAR, NORMAL RATE… AFTER AN INITIAL SHARP RECOVERY FROM BUSH JUNIOR’S ECONOMIC MELT DOWN…. AND YOU THINK THAT THAT IS A BAD THING????? MEANWHILE, 13 MILLION ADDITIONAL PEOPLE WERE EMPLOYED UNDER OBAMA… AND ANOTHER MILLION… SO FAR… AFTER HE LEFT OFFICE… SO THINGS WERE LOOKING PRETTY GOOD WHEN HE LEFT OFFICE!!! NOW… TRUMP IS REWARDING THE RICH FOR BEING RICH… AND TRYING HARD TO CRAP ON EVERYONE ELSE!!! AND YOU LOVE THAT???? WHAT A HATE FILLED RIGHT WING JERK YOU ARE!!! YOU WILL PROBABLY LOVE THE SERIOUS DEPRESSION THAT TRUMP IS DOING HIS BEST TO CREATE… AND YOU WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY LAUGH AT THE 10 PLUS MILLION PEOPLE WHO WILL LOSE THEIR JOBS IF TRUMP AND HIS REPUBLICAN ALLIES HAVE THEIR WAY!!! WE MAY HAVE TO BUILD HIS STUPID WALL JUST TO PUT A FEW THOUSAND PEOPLE TO WORK… THAT MAY WELL BE THE ONLY BRIGHT SPOT IN HIS WHOLE ECONOMIC PLAN!!! THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO WILL DO MOST OF THE WORK NEEDED TO BUILD THAT WALL WILL SURELY BE HAPPY!!!

I thought you liked the market soaring. You bragged that Obama made the market soar. You said it was an accomplishment of his presidency. But it is not an accomplishment when it happens under Trump? What a fool you make yourself out to be Comrade Dillweed.

  • JohnDille

IS THAT WHY THE STOCK MARKETS SOARED BY ABOUT 20% IN THE 3 TO 4 MONTHS AFTER TRUMP GOT ELECTED… BECAUSE TRUMP CARES ABOUT ALL THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF WORKING CLASS PEONS WHO GET ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT FROM A SOARING STOCK MARKET???? THE ONLY PEOPLE TRUMP CARES ABOUT IS… TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP AND TRUMP!!! EVERYONE ESLE IS WELCOME TO DROP DEAD… BECAUSE TRUMP HAS ABSOLUTELY NO USE FOR REAL HUMAN BEINGS… AT ALL!!! PRETTY MUCH THE SAME CAN BE SAID FOR DIMWIT DANIEL!!! HOW MANY REAL ACTUAL WORKING PEOPLE DID YOU SCREW OVER IN YOUR RECENT NEGOTIATIONS??? LOTS OF THEM, NO DOUBT!!!

  • JohnDille

JUST THINK WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE FIRST TRUMP BUDGET… WELL… SORT OF A BUDGET… FINALLY TAKES EFFECT IN JUST OVER 5 WEEKS FROM NOW!!! WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF OBAMA’S TIME IN OFFICE TO PROTECT US FROM RUMP’S INSANITIES…. AND THE RESULTS COULD BE HORRENDOUS!!!

How about that Comrade Dillweed? Finally a President that cares more about main street than wall street.
