Driving from Baltimore back to our home in New Jersey, my children and I (my wife was napping) listened to the most historic news report of their young lives.
After 2 years, and millions of dollars, the special counsel, reported to the American public that there was – ‘no collusion’ between Donald Trump, his presidential campaign and those sneaky Russians.
It’s rare to get choked up discussing politics with 13-year-olds, but yesterday’s announcement was for a change – good news for all Americans. At least it should be…
This news might not be as memorable as when we landed on the moon, the day Kennedy was assassinated or when the towers fell, but in the sense that our President didn’t collude with those evil Russians to steal the 2016 election, it might be one of the most historic.
I can’t imagine what the world would have looked like today had the conclusion been different.
There would undoubtedly be rioting in the streets, with calls from every talking head for the immediate imprisonment of our 45th president.
The entire time I was driving I wondered what Allysa Milano thought of all of this?
Yesterday, we ended a topic of conversation that has spoiled too many family dinners, too many special events, and far too many conversations between friends and fellow Americans who should be on the same side.
For the first time in my entire life, we investigated a sitting president and concluded he was telling the truth.
Think about that for a second.
We took the highest office in the land and subjected it to, what can now be considered a ‘witch hunt,’ all because we didn’t believe he was telling us the truth.
After two years, thousands of subpoenas, tens of thousands of man-hours, we learned that President Donald Trump was telling us the truth the entire time when he said he and his team did not collude with the Russians.
As a nation, we have become so cynical, that when the President of the United States, tells us something, we choose to either believe or disbelieve, depending on our shared party affiliation.
My grandparents came to this country after surviving multiple concentration camps with a strong work ethic and a desire to give their kids opportunities they didn’t have in the old world.
Would they be ashamed of what the U.S. has become?
If you remove the small percentage of the population that spends entirely too much time glued to their TVs watching Maddow, Matthews, Carlson, Lemon or any of the other opinionistas, you will see that we are still great.
The U.S. is still the land of opportunity.
Yes, there are things we can fix, but if you remove the non-stop mental gassing coming from those opinionistas, life is excellent.
We are doing better now than at any time in our entire history.
The unemployment rate has never been lower, and college participation rates are at all-time highs.
We have more equality in politics, in business and education for minorities and women than ever before. If that isn’t the measure of real progress than what is?
America was founded as a meritocracy, and that is what made America great.
This country was founded by free thinkers, so why do we let so many others cloud our good sense.
Today, I am going to make it my mission to spend a little less time wondering what the opinionistas have to say. CNN, MSNBC, and the other #NEVERTRUMP crew took too many of us down a dark path, for far too long.
Stop listening to the words coming out of their overpaid mouths…
Go take a walk, drink a glass of wine, read a book, or go kick rocks…
As Ronald Regan said, ‘America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.”
Just shut off the damn TV and be thankful you live in the greatest country in the world.
