Why Did The Obama Administration “Organize And Manage” Protests Against George Zimmerman?

Is the Obama administration at least partially responsible for turning the George Zimmerman trial into such a huge national spectacle?  Judicial Watch has obtained documents which prove that the Community Relations Service, a division of the Department of Justice, was sent to Sanford, Florida in late March 2012 “to help organize and manage rallies and protests against George Zimmerman“.  This included spending quite a bit of money, arranging meetings between the NAACP and local leaders, and providing police escorts for protesters.  Someone needs to ask Obama why the federal government was doing this.  A story that should have never made national headlines now threatens to unleash a firestorm of racial fury unlike anything we have seen since the Rodney King verdict.  One young man, a neighborhood watch captain, shot and killed another young man.  This kind of thing happens in American cities every single night.  George Zimmerman says that he did it in self-defense.  He should be allowed to have his day in court and that should be the end of the matter.  But instead, this thing has been hyped into a massive national spectacle and it is being used to divide us along racial lines.  And it appears that we have clear evidence that the Obama administration was involved in doing the hyping.

The documents that Judicial Watch was able to obtain contain some absolutely startling information.  Apparently the role of the Obama administration in these protests was quite substantial

JW filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the DOJ on April 24, 2012; 125 pages were received on May 30, 2012. JW administratively appealed the request on June 5, 2012, and received 222 pages more on March 6, 2013. According to the documents:

  • March 25 – 27, 2012, CRS spent $674.14 upon being “deployed to Sanford, FL, to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies related to the shooting and death of an African-American teen by a neighborhood watch captain.”
  • March 25 – 28, 2012, CRS spent $1,142.84 “in Sanford, FL to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies related to the shooting and death of an African-American teen by a neighborhood watch captain.
  • March 30 – April 1, 2012, CRS spent $892.55 in Sanford, FL “to provide support for protest deployment in Florida.”
  • March 30 – April 1, 2012, CRS spent an additional $751.60 in Sanford, FL “to provide technical assistance to the City of Sanford, event organizers, and law enforcement agencies for the march and rally on March 31.”
  • April 3 – 12, 2012, CRS spent $1,307.40 in Sanford, FL “to provide technical assistance, conciliation, and onsite mediation during demonstrations planned in Sanford.”
  • April 11 – 12, 2012, CRS spent $552.35 in Sanford, FL “to provide technical assistance for the preparation of possible marches and rallies related to the fatal shooting of a 17 year old African American male.”

But the involvement of the Department of Justice went far beyond just spending money and helping to organize and manage the protests.

Apparently, the Department of Justice was involved in setting up meetings between the NAACP and local officials, and the Department of Justice even arranged police escorts for protesters

On April 15, 2012, during the height of the protests, theOrlando Sentinel reported“They [the CRS] helped set up a meeting between the local NAACP and elected officials that led to the temporary resignation of police Chief Bill Lee according to Turner Clayton, Seminole County chapter president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.” The paper quoted the Rev. Valarie Houston, pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church, a focal point for protestors, as saying “They were there for us,” after a March 20 meeting with CRS agents.

Separately, in response to a Florida Sunshine Law request to the City of Sanford, Judicial Watch also obtained an audio recording of a “community meeting” held at Second Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford on April 19, 2012. The meeting, which led to the ouster of Sanford’s Police Chief Bill Lee, was scheduled after a group of college students calling themselves the “Dream Defenders”barricaded the entrance to the police department demanding Lee be fired.  According to the Orlando Sentinel, DOJ employees with the CRS had arranged a 40-mile police escort for the students from Daytona Beach to Sanford.

Under what conditions is it ever acceptable for the federal government to arrange police escorts for protesters?

And why did the Obama administration want to help them?

What was the goal?

As a result of all of the hype that this case has been given, we now have more racial tension in the United States than we have had in a very, very long time.

And it is becoming apparent to everyone what could potentially happen if George Zimmerman is acquitted.  In fact, law enforcement officials are so concerned about violence in the aftermath of the verdict that they have released a videoencouraging young people not to commit violent acts…

On Monday, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office released a video calling on the public not to riot in the wake of the George Zimmerman verdict, expected this week or next in Florida. The Sheriff’s Office released a statement explaining that it was “working closely with the Sanford Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies” to coordinate “a response plan in anticipation of the verdict.”

The video, titled “Raise Your Voice, Not Your Hands,” focuses on attempting to channel reaction into non-violent response. It depicts two youngsters, one black teenage boy, one Hispanic teenage girl. “Raise your voice!” says the girl. “And not your hands!” says the boy. “We need to stand together as one, no cuffs, no guns,” says the girl. “Let’s give violence a rest, because we can easily end up arrested,” says the boy. “I know your patience will be tested,” says the girl, and then both conclude, “but law enforcement has your back!”

This never should have happened.

This case should never have been hyped like this.

Instead of being encouraged to look at each other as individuals and fellow American citizens, our politicians and the media continue to hype racial division and strife.

Are we ever going to learn how to love one another?

  1. Again, this blog posts yet another story with no, no documentary evidence. I worked in the media at a time when the media was credible. We had to check our facts repeatedly. This site publishes nothing more than hyperbole. A mixture of partial bs and make the facts up as you go. No journalistic integrity at all!!!

  2. It seems as though you are taking up for the teenage gang member, who was kicked out of school for possession of burglar tools and who was also high on drugs the night of the shooting instead of the neighborhood watch captain who was just trying to protect his community where burglaries had preciously occurred. You evidently don’t know anything about home invasions, burglaries or muggings because you have not been the victim of one of those. Years ago, I wish that my community had someone watching out for us when my home was burglarized and I also wish that someone was watching out for my sister when she was murdered inside her apartment back in 1969. This administration gets involved with problems when it shouldn’t and tries to avoid solving the real problems that it should solve. Senseless murders are occurring everyday in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and New Orleans and this administration does nothing about those. We should fear this out of control administration more than any individual person with a CCW permit. I don’t know where you have been lately but, right now, the Federal Government is already involved with cover ups and corruption. Just read the news because it’s already here!

  3. Our tax dollars being spent for Chicago style bullying, and threats isthing new. Notice the professional pre-printed signs. Acorn is in full bloom, more of our tax dollars being wasted,.No doubt IRS is in their soewhere too, with their high experience rate to waste YOUR money, it all traces back to our Muslim in the whitehouse, Cutter, Axelrod, plouffe, etc.

  4. That’s why they keep showing the picture of a 12 year old Martin and not one
of the 19 year old. I figured they did that for sympathy because they knew they didn’t have much of a case

  5. The man had a gun the other boy did not , the man weighed much more then the boy , the man approach the boy he was the aggressor , the man shot a unarmed boy , end of story the wannabe cop should be charged with murder one and given life in prison with no chance of getting out of jail except in a box , he is a murderer ! End of story when you cannot walk down the street without being approach by a busybody with a gun you no longer live in a normal society.when the GOVERMENT gets involved there will be corruption at the highest level Love you country FEAR YOUR GOVERMENT

Nice try at twisting the story to your agenda.

When racial tensions flared in Sanford, a league of secretive peacemakers
reached out to the city’s spiritual and civic leaders to help cool heated
emotions after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in February.
When civil-rights organizers wanted to demonstrate, these
federal workers taught them how to peacefully manage crowds.
They even arranged a police escort for college students to
ensure safe passage for their 40-mile march from Daytona
Beach to Sanford to demand justice.

What evidence? The links you provided show that the DOJ was supplying support to the local authorities.

  10. So Dave, even though you actually knew what the CRS’s mission and duties are you chose accept the allegations in this article (without one shred of factual support) and based on it decided that the CRS did something that in fact it did not do. Come on Dave, step away from the factually challenged world and live a better life.

  11. If you read the word Zimmerman said in the 911 phone record, you will find he had lots of hate and discrimination thought too.

  12. Sue the federal government, George. The federal government spent taxpayer money to create a vendetta against you, before any finding of guilt. This is slander and they owe you a ton of money, that you can use to pay for bodyguard protection you will now need because of their actions.

  13. I think they told Zimmerman stop following Martin, there was no sign of crime. Zimmerman refused to do so.

    This following was the conversation.

“This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or
something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”

After telling the dispatcher that “he’s coming towards me” with “his hand in his waistband, and he’s a black male,” Zimmerman abruptly flip-flopped, claiming the youth was fleeing and bemoaning that “These a_______ always get away.”

Moments later, Zimmerman said Martin was running away and called the youth a “f______ punk.” After confirming that Zimmerman was following Martin, the dispatcher said, “Ok, we don’t need you to do that.”
So there’s a response and Zimmerman failed to comply.

  14. The only way I can see for us to rise up our of this mess is for those who helped Obama lie his way to the top is to pray for them to get a conscience and confess and Obama is impeached and he finally confesses to being a liar and a hypocrite – guess not going to happen – God is in charge something is coming down the pike – I for one have to keep faith..

  15. Totalitarians stay in power as long as they can set people against each other – I made an innocuous comment on Michael Savage’ page regarding his opinion on Zimmerman – and I got an answer so filled with violence and hate – I was accused of being a Klansman and worse..Obama has succeeded in brainwashing people especially black Americans to set on each other that I do not have much hope for this country..

  16. Who/what is JW [Judicial Watch ]
who/what is CRS [Community Relations Service, a division of the Department of Justice]
Why does Florida & Department of Justice want to end neighborhood watch programs . Why didn’t the police respond to Zimmerman’s initial call ? Do future rioter s realize Homeland Security has alot of hollow bullets ready to aim @them ?

  17. I agree that this is an Alinsky tactic and should be made public in every newspaper and on every TV and radio station to show how this Obama administration operates. Obama and the Justice Dept. should be impeached for such activity. Americans, when are we going to put a stop to such activity? I support Judicial Watch but why is this necessary when we elect candidates to work for and protect legal citizens of our Republic from such illicit government activity?

  18. It is ironic that a division of the justice department that was supposed to decrease racial tension was increasing it instead. Until I saw this I thought that a certain cable news network which was having problems with low ratings was the only sponsor of these demonstrations. In both cases they should have asked for a legal opinion before doing anything. Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz stated at the time that there was not enough evidence to justify laying any charge at all in the case. He stated this week that the prosecution had not succeeded in making a case. The critical factor was that they could not prove who escalated the conflict from an argument to a wresting match. They do know that the deceased escalated it from a wrestling match to an attempted murder.

In any case this branch of the justice department has helped to set race relations back by a generation so they can be assured of more work to do in the future.
Your tax dollars at work, folks.

  19. This is a Alinsky, i.e., Communist tactic. Keep stirring the pot and create constant confusion and anxiety. Welcome to Communist Amerika.

  20. The ONLY goal this administration has is to divide and conquer the UNITED States.
