Carvana Slides on Guidance
A fast read on levels, catalysts, and the next best trade decision.
Editor’s Note: The hedge fund legend who went on a 20-year winning streak has uncovered a strange pattern in the AI markets that hands investors fresh chances to profit every 90 days – the next one hits September 16. Click here to see the details or read more below.
Dear Reader,
Elon Musk has a new obsession.
It’s a material at the very center of his AI plans.
Without it, the chips and data centers that AI runs on simply wouldn’t work.
And without those, all of Elon’s ambitions crumble to the ground.
But no matter what happens to Elon…
I’ve found a new way for you to profit from this material.
It’s a whole new way to make money from the AI boom – one that hands you fresh chances to profit every 90 days.
But you have only a short time to get positioned ahead of the next one, which hits September 16.
I just recorded a free presentation revealing everything you need to know to get ready.
Click here to watch the presentation now, and get positioned before September 16.
Best,

Carvana Slides on Guidance
Today’s tell is simple: Carvana can post a monster quarter and still get sold because the forward view did not clear a very high bar.
That is not a judgment on the company. It is a read on market psychology. When expectations are stretched, guidance becomes the whole game.
Market overview
Here is the environment I care about going into the next few sessions: earnings reactions have been choppy, and single-name gaps are getting punished when outlook language is even slightly cautious. That is a market that rewards discipline, not hero calls.
Translation: this is a better market for defined risk and clear levels than it is for “hope it bounces” trading. Slight tangent, but it matters. When these gaps start showing up across the calendar, you do not need to trade more. You need to trade cleaner.
The biggest opportunity today
The opportunity is not “buy CVNA because it is down.” The opportunity is to use CVNA as a guidepost for risk appetite in high-beta consumer and retail-adjacent names.
If traders keep selling a stock after record results, it is usually saying: the market is not paying for perfection right now. It is paying for visibility.
What changed in CVNA
Carvana’s Q1 2026 numbers explain why expectations got so elevated in the first place: retail units sold were 187,393 (up 40% year over year) and revenue was $6.432 billion (up 52% year over year), with record net income of $405 million.
So the stock reacting badly to guidance is the market focusing on the path, not the trailing results. People are asking whether margins, demand, and funding conditions can stay clean enough to keep compounding without a wobble.
61% of Americans Worry America Could be on the Verge of Another Civil War
Today, more than half of America thinks a civil war is likely.
Former CIA Advisor Jim Rickards agrees.
He just uncovered a fascinating plot by Trump to keep the Democrats out of the White House until 2033.
And while he believes it could be successful, it could also trigger America’s Second Civil War.
Technical assessment
In a post-gap stock, I want two things before I get aggressive: stabilization and proof of demand. That can look like a tight daily range after the first hit, or a reclaim of the gap-day midpoint with volume that is not fading.
If CVNA keeps making lower intraday highs and cannot hold bounces, that is usually distribution, not a one-day emotional flush.
Trading plan
Base case: treat the first 48 to 72 hours after the gap as a discovery window. The best trades often come after the stock stops being a headline and starts being a chart again.
- What strengthens the long thesis: a higher low, then a reclaim of key intraday levels from the gap session, plus improving breadth in other high-beta names.
- What weakens it: repeated failed bounces and heavy selling into any strength, especially if peers are also rolling over.
- Risk to respect: this is still a fast stock. Size and time horizon matter more than being “right.”
If you are trading options around this, I would rather express a bounce view with defined risk than chase premium in the first hour. Give the stock time to show you whether buyers are real.
Stocks on the radar
Keep a short list next to CVNA today:
- Used auto and retail-adjacent names: are they holding up, or is this a broader risk-off rotation?
- High-beta leaders: do they shrug off guidance risk, or do they start trading heavy too?
- Index proxies: watch whether the Nasdaq 100 can stay firm while single-name gaps widen.
Risk dashboard
For the next few sessions, I care about three things: more earnings gaps, rates moving quickly, and whether breadth deteriorates while indexes look “fine.” That combo tends to sneak up on people.
Trader action plan
1) Treat CVNA as a sentiment tell, not just a single-stock story.
2) Let the post-gap range form. Then trade the break, not the emotion.
3) If you do take a shot, keep it defined risk and demand a clean invalidation point. If that does not exist, skip it.
Worth a look: if CVNA cannot stabilize after a record-results headline, it is a warning that the market is still in “prove it” mode.
